I have a 2006 FLHXI that was made this March, I bought it in April, and today has only 2200 miles on it. Noticed the holes in the filter when I was attempting to upgrade to a Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Only the kit that my local stealership gave me was the wrong kit!!! Back it goes tomorrow!
Thanks for the picture and advice. Seems HD could do so much better for the buyer but I guess they've established a profit margine and aren't about to erode it. There are other posts regarding the Screaming Eagle Stage one air filters falling apart as well. No wonder the aftermarket has so many choices. I'm planning on a Big Sucker as well...looks to be well made with no negative press I've seen.
looks to me like the bike back fired through the carb and burned the filter. i had the aif filter on my shovel start on fire once from the bike back firing. full tank of fuel,i had to scramble to hit it with an extinguisher before everything went up in smoke.

Best way to put out the fire is to start the bike, and remove the air filter while its running. Alot less mess than an extinguisher.

Seems like I remember someone else having this problem a few months ago too.
I returned my kit to the dealer today. They wouldn't order the right kit due to it wasn't in the '06 catalog. I explained that the right part number is on the Arlen Ness site. Nope, we can credit your account. Fine, c'ya!!!
I ordered the right kit from Eastern Performance (because of the thumbs up from fellow posters here).
The other thing, Why were there holes in my stock air filter? Blank stare. Did you ever hear of this before? Yep. You'll have to talk to the service dept. for that.
I'll talk, but not to anyone there. Anybody have some info to direct this to a higher authority?
