I know this is probly already been talked about but I just got my new 09 street glide and would like to send the seat to mean city cycles and have it lowered a little and shaved on the sides to get the feeling of sitting in the bike instead of on top, has anyone had any luck on the 09's with them, I like the looks of the seat so I really don't want to go to something different. Thanks
Welcome to the Forum!!!!
If they are not going to charge you an arm-and-a-leg to modify it,
that may be the cheapest way out to get what you like and want.
Otherwise I would tell you to just buy another seat that fits YOU....and sell the RG seat.
thanks for the reply, like the style with the back low my wife doesn't ride very much so I like the streamline look, but would like to get lower in the saddle with the same look and not ruin my comfort, didn't see anything out there that would do that still want to use the factory pass. back rest also
It's really not so hard to shave the seat down yourself. I did it to the stock seat on my 08 RKC. Just remove the staples and peel back the vinyl. I used a hacksaw blade which is very flexible, and just sliced it like I was shaving a hunk of cheese. A little at a time, keeping both sides even. Pull the vinyl tight and re-staple. You can even use heavy sandpaper to shape the foam. It ain't all that hard to do.
The 09 and 10 Model SG seats are very bad. I would recommend finding you a 08 SG seat, it will bolt right on the 09/10 models and there is a lot more foam in them but they are 1/2" narrower and you can modify them to better suit your needs.
In 09 HD redesigned their touring bike seat pans again and raised the bottom of the pan so they would use less foam in them and then used a poor quality foam. I figure it was a cost savings deal but who ever came up with the seat pan design is as stupid as they come.
I out a 09 SG seat on my Ultra when the tourpak is off. Don't care for the feel of it, and contacted MCC to see what they could do to give it some comfort. I was told that there wasn't much they could do with that particular seat, and advised I try another seat. I appreciated their honesty up front.
Are the 07/08 seat the same style as the 09 except for the seat pan and will they bolt right up to the factory locations?
No. The 07-earlier and 08 use two completely different mounts. In 07-earlier the seat had a tab that went into a notch in the frame. In 08 it changed to the frame having a tab that goes into a notch in the seat. Mounting stayed the same in 09 but the pans are wider and less padding. Crappy seats IMO.
If you are really attached to the Street Glide style try to pick up a used 08. Or better yet get yourself an 08 Road Glide seat. One of the most comfortable stock seats HD makes. And it still has a low profile sporty look that goes with the SG.
I wouldnt waste time or money on the shty stock seat. The ABS seat pan sucks and isn't easily modified. I went with a C&C fastback 2up seat $325ish shipped. Well worth the money and looks sick!
