Ok, I had the cruise installed and it worked great untill it rained. Then it cut out while going down HWY at 70 mph 3 times. I put back on and it wouldn't engage then it would then it wouldn't. Stopped for gas and when I got back on HWY didn't work at all for around 20 miles then it's been working fine since. Any clues, could it have something to do with the rain or water since it did it after I washed the bike also. Did this ever happen to any one before.
Shouldn't be running cruise in the rain in the 1st place.
I got this the other day. Not motorcycle related, but if it happens with 4 wheels......
I wonder how many people know about this?
A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore, Texas, she was traveling between Gladewater &Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydroplane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!
When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON. She had thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.
But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on and your car begins to hydroplane --
when your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you
take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.
The highway patrol estimated her car was actually traveling through the air at 10 to 15 miles per hour faster than the speed set on the cruise control.
The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE
CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to
set the cruise control and drive a safe speed - but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.
The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.
Didn't have it on when raining, but the bike sat out in the rain for 3 hours getting soaked. I know when to use cruise and when not to but thank you for your concern. I paid $300.00 for it and it should work if wet cold hot, or what ever so that's not the answer I was looking for.Cruise should work when on, bottom line.If you would of read the post I didn't say I had it on in the rain.
Isnt it nice when someone replies without really reading the post? Anyway, I would be willing to bet that its deffinately a water issue. It finally dried out and now its good. I would take it back to who installed it rite away. A quick way to tell would be to wash the bike again and get all the cruise components plenty wet and take her for a sping and try it. If its not working then you know its got to be something getting wet that shouldnt.
I think your cruise control was going to quit rain or no rain. I know lots of guys that have cruise on their bikes and it works just fine in the wet. It's supposed to actually. My cruise control has not worked at all since I got the bike 6 weeks ago. I dropped it off at the dealer today for the 1K service and they're going to check it out. I think that yours and mine was just not properly installed, that's all. Take the bike back to them. Nothing much else you can do.

Isn't it nice when someone else responds to a post and misinterprets? I read the post and got from it the impression that he was riding in the rain with CC on. I expressed my concern about that.
Try loosening the idle cable a half turn so there is a little slack. There is a roll off switch that will cut off the cruise inline with the cable. Mine was too tight after I changes grips and readjusted the cables. It would cut out at random, when I hit a bump or if I rested a hand on the throttle as it changed positionsgoing up or down a hill. My 2cents!!

That would be the first thing I would try. Mine used to cut off on me because I had been riding for quite some time and would tend to rest my weight on the grips. Another thing you should check, but will need a manual for, is the "cable lash initialization". I'm not sure what you are riding, or if the bike came with crusie, or was an after the purchase install. Either way, this initialization process sets the cruise control memory to know when the cable is actually working the throttle for the bike. It may have either lost it's "memory" or may have never been initialized in the first place.
