Default Need opinions before purchase, please!

Hello
I'm a new member getting ready to purchase my first HD. I have been looking at HD's for the past 6 months and have decided to get a Street Glide. My question is should I purchase a new 2010 (over 20K) or a used 2006 that already has custom wheels, exhaust, chrome ect for 17k - 18k. Please give me your opinions.

Lot of variables in the decision.
Personally I'm completely happy with my 06. But I've spent a lot of money on powdercoating parts black and adding extras like stereo, amp, speakers and big bore kit. This bike is set up just the way I want it and wouldn't want to do it over again.
If you don't know much about Harleys and aren't going to be comfortable working on a used bike with no warranty then +1 on the 2010.
If you intend to tear into the bike and build up the engine anyway then +1 on the 06.
If you really just want a SG and can live with the stock wheels and just want to add a few accessories then +1 on the 2010.
$17-18k for a used bike unless it's really tricked out is pretty steep in this market and a $2-3k more for new bike with a warranty is cheap for the peace of mind.
Personally if I was going the new bike route I'd look for a leftover 09. You get the new frame, 96" engine and six speed without the catalyst head pipes and missing rear tail/stop light. You should be able to pick one up for about the split between the 2010 and 2006.

If you go with the new one, you MUST remember...The Bike is just the down payment for the accessories. If you got the coin go for it.
If things might be considered tight, get the used one with the rims. Hell, thats 3K right there if they are nice billet.

For the few thousand difference I would go for the 2010 and warranty. You never know what has been done to a used bike, some could be good but alot of bad too. And the tech has improved also from '06-'10.

+1 on the '10. In my opinion, the 6 speed by itself would almost be worth the extra money, but the bigger motor and new frame are a better choice. Plus with the '10, you get to pick the color. As far as the extra bling on the '06, that is someone else's and not your's. Getting the new one will allow you to make the choice on what you want. Don't get in a hurry for the exhaust. Listen to different ones and talk with the owners and get their opinion on what they like and dislike about them.

P.S. Whichever bike you decide on, say goodbye to all of your extra money.

Personally I'd check the dealers in your area for any leftover 2009's. All the improvements of the 2010 (except for 5th gear noise and that's why you have pipes and a stereo) and you may find a dealer willing to deal. The local dealerships here have zero 09 baggers left but hopefully the ones around you do.

You should buy a 10' for $18,999, Or a leftover 09' for even less.

+1 on the 09 models. The frame change in 08 and the 6-speed tranny make the newer models worth it from a handling perspective. Plus as you change things out yourself, you'll be getting exactly what you wanted, not what someone else built.

I would go with a 09 to get the new frame, 96 motor, six speed, and ABS brakes. Just my opinion.
