1 reason why i bought my 09' Street Glide was because of FLY- by Wire.Seems to be smooth and have good response.A big plus also is no maintance. After comming off an 03' With a 42 flat slide Mikuni carb added seems to have as good response but wiht less wrist fatique.
The throttle turns a little easier than on my other bikes, don't have to grip it as tight (not that I grip tight at all). My Ultra will maintain speed with my hand resting on the grip, remove my hand and it returns to idle.
I like it.
I've gotten used to it, but to me there is a different feel. With cable throttles, there is more of a progressive feel to the throttle because of the return spring. The TBW has a constant resistance to the twist which made it hard for me to fine tune my low speed handleing. I use more clutch now for slow speed then I used to with less throttle input.
I went from a 2004 Super Glide to my 2009 EG Classic. The first couple of days I noticed a very slight lag in throttle response. But as I adjusted to it, it feels normal now and I love it. This is the first bike I have had with cruise control and I am a definite fan. I also like having two less cables to lube.
i've been very pleased with the tbw system. cruise control is seamless, meaning that there are no cables, just the stepper motor on the throttle body which reads the signals from the throttle grip. It is one of the later designs that harley has come up with that actually works great. by the way, 08 was the first year for harley, and i believe it's only on the touring models so far.
Can't say I'm a fan, constant high idle up to 2000 rpm, do the idle reset but to no avail. Need to get to the dealer while its still under warr. Other than this no other problems.
I had the same issue until I upgraded to the SEST, has not happened since then. I was told part of the problem is leaving your hand on the throttle when you turn the bike off. Not sure if I was doing that or not, but as I say now it is perfect.
