I rented an 08 Ultra before buying my 09. I put 1100 miles on it. I've got a little over 12000 on my 09 Ultra to date and in both cases, I've been pretty impressed with the TBW systems. It felt pretty natural on both bikes. I particularly like the cruise control. You bring the bike to speed, push the set button and it's just there. No slow down before the system takes up slack in the throttle cable. It's the most precise cruise I've seen on a bike and better than most car's I've owned with cruise and that would be all of them!
What's surprising me about this conversation is the number of folks who have said they can't tell the difference between cable throttle and TBW. When I was first started researching my Ultra, there were a number of folks who complained about the feel of the TBW system. Complaints about hesitations and such. I have never noticed a hesitation of any kind in the 08 model I rented or in my 09 Ultra. Then again, this is my first Harley and I don't have any experience with one with throttle cables but when I move the grip, the engine responds and that's good enough for me!
