Default New Road King Classic (tomorrow)

After dumping my 2005 Heritage on Memorial Day, my insurance finally determined they are going to total it. The bones are healing, so I will be closing a deal tomorrow on a 2006 Road King Classic. This being my first touring model, I have a few questions...

- The stock seat just will not do. The biggest complaint is the passenger pillion width (or lack of). The wife's ***-to-seat ratio will be out of whack if I don't get something wider. Additionally, I had a Mustang seat for my Heritage which was really comfortable with it's adjustable backrest. Mustang makes a similar seat for the RKC. Another option is the HD touring seat with the hard mounted back rest. I have been told the hard-mounted backrest pushes you too far farward if you are very tall... I'm 6'2". Price is about the same either way. Any thoughts on the hard mounted backrest?

- I had the Screamin' Eagle slip-ons, SE air kit, and HD flash on the Heritage and it gave the mellow sound and performance I was looking for. I was able to swap air cleaners on my Heritage before they totaled it and I think it will bolt up to the RKC. My question is on pipes. I would be happy with the standard HD stage I pipes, air kit and flash, but my dealer is out of SE pipes for the touring bikes and HD is not making any more. They are pushing the Roush pipes and after hearing a pair I thought they were louder than I am looking for. Any suggestions?

I'm looking forward to the new bike and the future mods. However, it is bittersweet since it comes from me totalling my Heritage which was the sweetest bike I've owned. I guess you've got to move on...

Any inputs are greatly appreciated.

Edmo

take a look at the rineharts. at idle they are not too loud. when you get on it they will roar and just cruizing 50-70 they purr. perfect for every symptom. very clean rich pure sound. you will want a sert or pcIII for em. the pcIII is very easy for self install. you should be able to get the pipes and pcIII for a little over 1000 at eastern performance. free ship. if you have the air cleaner, youre set. anyway do not get the download. i would rather get the pcIII. the download is a waiste. the pcIII will give you much better response even if you only get slip ons. ive rode a couple of buddies with the download and its not even a comparison for the little extra cash in the pcIII

Sorry to hear about the Heritage.....and congrats on getting a new King.
You'll soon be having second thoughts on the Heritage being the sweetest bike you ever have owned

The nicest thing about the RK, is the ability to pull the windshield in 5 sec's. I pulled mine and it hasn't been on in months. I've got a 400 mile trip in the morning, so 5 seconds later, I've got a windshield

Sorry to hear about your Heritage. The only consolation I can give you is that you'll soon think your RK Classic is the best bike you've ever ridden. I replaced the stock seat with a HD Sundowner Touring model and now my wife won't get on my bike unless that seat is on. I find it much more comfortable for my fat butt as well.

My bike has the HD SE Touring muffler and if they aren't in stock I wouldn't hesitate to get a set of Rhineharts. Those are sweet sounding pipes.

Best of luck on your new bike. By the way, what color did you order?

Can;t you strip some of the stuff off your old bike? I always was able to find my old ride after a crash and strip her down for 25 cents on the dollar.

I took about $1,200 worth of stuff off the old bike. Unfortunately, with the different frames and exhaust setup things like pipes and seats are not compatible. However, I have a friend who just bought an '06 Heritage who has a cheap stockpile of parts. The air cleaner kit, security siren, and a few do-dads which were not dinged up will go on the new bike. There are a lot of things which ended up bent or broken when the bike tumbled at 50 mph.

Any thoughts on the V&H programer vs the PCIII?

Best of luck with the new bike! I have a SG and love the fairing, but I've always thought that the RK was the best looking HD.

It's great that you were able to salvage parts from the Heritage. Unfortunately, I don't believe that the air kit will fit the 2006. I believe that the there is a size difference in the bodies.

When I purchase my SG, I picked up the Ness Big Sucker kit. At the time, nobody was able to give me a difinitive answer as to fit. Well, the backing plate didn't come close to fitting, and was off by about an inch. I ended up getting the SE kit, but again, I believe specifically for a 2006 model.

Good luck...worst case you can sell here on this board or on eBay and get about 1/2 the retail value toward a new kit
