Default Used Road King

I'm thinking about a used Road King. Found an 07 and a 05 that I would like to take a look at. Any good/ bad years? Problems? The 05 has 30k miles on it, think that is too much? How many miles have people been getting without major work having to be done?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The 07 has a 6 speed and a 96 as opposed to the 88 and 5 speed in the 05. The 07 also has the hydraulic tensioner system and better oil pump as opposed to the poor tensioner setup in the 05. 05's also had an issue with faulty valve seals in the heads that led to oil problems. I'd choose the 07 prior to going with the 05.

Ditto on 07, I wouldn't even go look at the 05.

A+ to dawg!
I wouldn't even give it a second thought! The 07 for sure is what I would buy.

I think Dawg said it all and then some.

Welcome to the board.

Take care.

Ok, thanks. The 07 is the target. Black Pearl, bags, engine guard with pegs, looks pretty stock otherwise. 2100 miles they are asking $13,900. I may go look at it Friday or Sat.

Thanks for the info.

See if it has the IDS added (isolated drive sprocket) when you look at it. Also when you test ride it, if you haven't been on an HD 6 speed before don't be surprised if you can hear a difference in 5th gear. 1st and 5th gears are straight cut as opposed to being helical cut. This was done for durability reasons and the noise is normal. Also if you feel like there is a lot of heat, don't worry that can be taken care of as well.

As for miles with out trouble, I have a 99 RKC, it has just over 60K no major problems...knock on wood.

Hey!!! You guys take it easy on the 05's. Mine has 40,000 miles on it and still going strong!!

That being said, go with the 07, sounds like a decent deal.
