Default Question about primary adjustment

I have opened up and played with the primary chain adjustment and am stumped. I have the manual and it shows the front of where the adjustment is made but not the back. When I try to adjust it seems that maybe the back has bigger notches than the front and find that on one location to loose but next one up to tight. Is the back serated like the front or bigger notches. When adjusting it cold I feel that at the looser adjustment its pretty well at the max of the 7/8 of an inch but when on the tighter of the 2,.. I seem to think its 1/8 short of 5/8..Am I missing a spot in between or is this as good as it gets..If it is should I go for the tighter or looser of the 2..Does anyone have a pic of the backside of where the bolt secures and if not can anyone tell me whats on the back..Small ribs like on front or larger increments..And whats best..Looser or tighter if these are the 2 adjustments I can do..

First off every chain has a tight spot and a loose spot and you need to find the tighest spot on the chain and that is where you make the adjustment. The back and front should both be serated. If one adjustment is too tight then you need to move it one notch lower. There is no in between notch and yes thats as good as it gets. Its better to be a bit loose than too tight but not so loose that the bike surges or bucks at low rpm. One more word of advice, if you are checking the primary chain with your finger be very careful. I accidentally turned over the motor with my index finger on the primary chain and I lost the finger. It was reattached but it's not the same as before.............BG

I understand both sides are serated. The question I have is when ya look at the front serated area they are very close together. It seems the back which I can not see is bigger serations and rather than being able to move it a lttle bit it forces like maybe 1/8 or more adjustment at a time. Has anyone seen whats on the back. Front real close..Back..???.Maybe even more than 1/8 at a time..Caonfirm if ya can..Also would it be better to adjust hot.??

Adjust it cold, tightest spot, no tighter than 5/8 of UPWARD travel in chain, not TOTAL travel. Aggree, looser is safer.
