I had the same experience of laying off for some time and then coming back to it. It was seven years since my last motorcycle, and 22 years since my last Harley. Within a week of taking delivery on the Ultra I was feeling back in the saddle for real.
Had the same thing happen recently when I took a ride with a flight instructor in a Cessna 172. It has been 16 years since I last flew anything. He asked me if I wanted to fly after takeoff and I said sure, then after a little refresher maneuvering, he offered to let me land the airplane. My wife and my boss were in the back seat. I greased it on like I had only flown yesterday! I guess while the skill and the confidence may erode some, you don't really ever lose the benefit of experience.
I know you are enjoying being back where you belong. Happy Trails.
