Default Problem mounting back rest

I purchased a riders back rest and mounting bracket from Chicago HD for my 2005 Road Glide. Part #'s 52900-09A & 52587-09. The mounting bracket has 4 different holes for attachment. This allows the backrest to be mounted further foreward or back as desired. My problem is that I can only use the 2 forward mounting holes. This puts the backrest too far forward. If I try to use either of the two rearward mounting holes, the seat pan hits the mounting bracklet and I can't install the seat. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Have you found a way to mount the barcket further back? I have 3 different seats and I have the same problem with each. Is it possible that I have the wrong mounting bracket for a RG? Thanks for your help.

Rider Backrest Mounting Hardware

Kit includes mounting bracket and all required installation hardware.

This product is available in multiple variations. Be sure to look for the one that fits the specific model and year of your motorcycle.

Are you sure you got he correct mounting bracket?

i just bought my first harley, a 2009,. i'm not the most knowledgeable guy on here, but, i've noticed that for the most part when i look up accessories for my bike , especially anything that has to do with the frame, the part #'s end in -09 or -09a. the 09 has a new frame and you have an 05. this could be your problem, check it out

I'm pretty sure that I received the correct bracket. The part description matches up with my application and the picture in the instructions matches up with the part. (There is no part # stamped on the part.)

I just noticed the following NOTE on the bottom os the instructions:

Some seats may limit the fore/aft mounting location of the
backrest bracket.

Isn't that a nice CYA. So I may have to look at modifying the seat pan.

Thanks for your response.

Default Problem mounting back rest

Ran into the same problem with my 2010 RK. Solved it by getting a mustang solo with back rest. Much more user friendly and more comfortable.

Have you tried turning the mount around?

I have the bracket oriented correctly, as there is a tab that must face foreward to connect to a bracket support (brace). I'd be curious to hear from other RG owners around '05 to see what their experience is.

Not sure if this picture will help but it helped me a lot when I did mine on my 05 Road Glide

Thanks for the picture but that's for the passenger back rest and I'm having a problem with the drivers back rest. But that's a good picture for future reference as I know that people sometimes get confused about what goes where.
