After seeing posts on problems other riders were having with these new radios I was happy mine was working fine . Then last week my screen went blank Took it to the dealer aand he told me they had to send it to the manufaturer and it would be 6-8 weeks before mine would be repaired or replaced!!! Has anyone else heard of this?
Like he said No Deal. Tell them to take one out of one of them new bikes and put it in yours. When I had problems with mine I guess I was lucky they just happen to have a new one in stock at least thats what they told me anyway its been working for several months.
Had problems with mine too. Cut out and went dead at about 1k service last fall, replaced fuse and all was fine. Cut out on 4-30, replaced fuse and all was fine. Cut out on 6-30 and went thru 4 fuses. I was blowing fuses just making contact with the fuse terminals. Dropped it on the dealers doorstep on 7-1. Told them I was leaving for NY on 7-6 and I wanted it back by 7-5 at noon. Picked it up on 7-3. It had a wire that was worn and shorting out. Hope that's it.
BTW, I just did the Hk Update that was also posted here in the HD Forum with no problems at all.
When my screen went blank on my 1st HK radio it took a week. The dealer I go to for service is not my selling dealer due to lagistics. I had no bargining power so I had to wait. I did call every couple of days and ask. Most everybody that has posted issues has had a one or two day turn around.
Side note
Ask the dealer if it's really the normal time or if they are stalling until the 07 bikes are available. The 07's are supposed to have a newly redisgned radio.
6 to 8 weeks is about when the new bikes should start hitting the streets.
I've been told that if you have had a problem with your radio that the MoCo will replace the radio with the updated one on a service bulliten instead of a recall
because not everyone seems to be having an issue.
With all the yelling about the Harmon Kardon HD radios .. I'm glad my old '03 Road Glide wasn't elgible to upgrade .. they said the wiring harness wouldn't fit. Lucky me .. I bought the Biketronics Retro Radio Kit w/ a Sony GT-400 AM/FM/MP3/WMA and added XM Sat. Radio too. Now I'm a happy camper!!
HK's Suck. I will keep taking my rig in with the same complaint, skipping, and unable to update to latest software, and cuts out. If nothing has been resolved by early next year, I will yank the audio abortion out, and slap in a SONY head, Hawgwired Amp and speaker package, and send the leftovers back to the dickweeds that sold it to me...
If your unit works, I am happy for ya, but mine has been wrong for a long time, and I am sick of the dumb looks that I have gotten when I say it skips. They can never recreate the issue, until I offer to make the CD skip sitting in the parking lot. And I can make it do it. Then they make excuses. In all fairness, the bike is at a dealer in VA being looked at. I hope they figure out something, they seem like a good bunch. But if they don't? Whatever. The end of using dealerships. Never been impressed yet.... The sad thing is that I think there are lots of mechanics that are talented guys, but they are not allowed to yank something out and warranty it... That is the service manager's job, and he is counting beans, not fixing stuff.
You can demand a new radio till your blue in the face... They are gonna give you a refurbished radio. Harley has been doing it for years. If it's under warranty they do it for free, if not then it's $75.00 to do the swap. REFURBISHED=SOMEBODY ELSES PROBLEM! I'm on radio # 2 waiting for # 3 to arrive so we can change it again... Gave up on listening to CD's in the meantime.. I'm tempted to spend the money and put something else in but for the cost of this radio they ought to get it right.....
