You would think the MoCo would get this right with all the complaints about the POS HK radio............
But I never understood the thing about a radio on a bike, I like listening to the motor purring down the highway!!
But I never understood the thing about cruise control, that is, until I got a bike with it installed
I have an 06 Roadie and up until a week ago I too had no problems. My left chanel work whenever it wants. I really don't want to pull the outer fairing again. I have had it off for a headlight, a volt meter light, install Hog Tunes, & lastley antenna in the fairing. The Hog Tunes are a huge improvement over the stock speakers and they have been in for many months so I don't think that is my problem. Has anyone installed the Biketronics setup on an 06 model? Is the Sony headunit "water resistant" like the HK? Are the 2ohm speakers a good match with the Sony unit? Does Biketronics have a facplae adapter for the Sony unit to fit "properly" in the fairing? Lastley, does the XM use a separate antenna? Wldhogn, does the Biketronics live up to all my questions? This is alot cheaper way to go since I want XM and if the Biketronics has an adapter for an 06 harness.
Thank goodnes I'm not alone. But mine seems worse than anyone else's.
Mine started with the weather alert cutting in on the radio when the weather was just fine. It was very random, but also very irritating.
Three trips to the dealer with a response of "we can't do anything until we see it for ourselves. Just keep stopping back and have a tech take it for a ride to see if it happens"
Then I discovered the actual weather alert didn't work at all when a tornado crosed I-94 two miles behind me. An FM station allowed me to drive wide open long enough to outrun it.
Next the speakers would stop working. I had to turn the radio off and back on for them to work again. Then the entire dash quit along with the horn and turn signals.
I dropped it at the delaer last Wednesday and told them it wasn't safe to drive and they should call me when its fixed. I haven't heard a word now in six days.
Does anyone know if Wisconsin's lemon law on vehicles apply to motorcycles?
Yea, I too have had problems with the 06 SG HK unit.
- Certain CDs skip, new out of the plastic (its not a normal skip, it stops playing sound but when it comes back, the track has progressed normall, instead of a skip to the same spot)
- The volume during speed/slow does not change anymore
- MP3 player now resets to track 1 when you power off the bike. When you have a cd with 100 tracks, getting back to 60 after a reset sucks ****. If you switch to FM/AM before you power off the switch, once you bring it back on it remembers the last track it was on.
- Screen has gone blank many times and would also display every character on the screen for a few seconds before you see the HK post screen again
- The other day, I was listening to the CD when. When i powered it off it was playing fine. Powered it back up about an hour later and could not change or do anything to the unit. It was stuck on the same track and no matter what you did, it would only display the time/track but you couldnt control anything. After about 30 minutes and 10 resets, it freaked out and went to track 1 and i regained control.
Radio number three installed, CD player still skipping. HK Tech is baffled, now they're saying it's the bike. Bull$hit. They send these radios in to HK for repair. HK bench tests them in an climate controled environment where there is no vibration. They don't find a problem, put the refurbished sticker on it & send it back out to the next chump. Tech puts it in a fairing where the temps exceed 100 degrees F, and subject the radio to engine & road vibration then blame the bike when it doesn't work. Dealer Tech has done well by me, can't say the same for Hk.
Today I'll be calling HD Customer Service to discuss a new radio this time, as opposed to refurbished. Already know it's a waste of time but it frustrates the hell out of me that I can't listen to my CD player about 40% of the time.
Spoke with HD customer service today. 1-414-343-4056. A pleasant experience. Told them my theory on why the refurb radios don't work on the bikes and they acted like I might be on to something. I suggested that since I am on my thrid radio I would like a new radio, not a refurb replacement. They agreed. Had their tech call the harley shop tech & advised him a new radio would be sent but it would take a week or so as they are on back order..
