I change mine every Spring along with all the oils so everything is fresh for the upcoming "riding season".

Default Non-stock plugs may disable "Anti-Knock feature

I had just installed Screemin Eagle 'standard-compression' plugs and was trying to find out if the pre-set gap of .35 was right since the standard one uses a .40 gap. I guess I got sucked in by the marketing just like I do with Harley add-on parts in general.

One site I visited was HarleyHelp.com and they suggested that the use of any plug other than the HD stock plug would disable the "Anti-Knock" feature programmed into 2005 and newer V-Twins. It had something to do with the feature being tied to reading the resistance in the plug.

I don't know if this is actually the case, but I may put my stock plugs back in just to be safe because I'm not sure if the new plugs would really be an improvement in performance anyway.

Default Follow-up to:"Non-stock plugs may disable "Anti-Knock feature

I followed up with HD and they said that the comment about eliminating the anti-knock feature on the HarleyHelp.com site was not correct. Any HD plug that fits the app will work with the plug sensing that deals with anti-knock in the ECM. Other brands may be ok too, but they only test the HD plugs and can't verify other brands.I installed 32192-10 Screemin Eagle plugs for standard compression. They said the SE plug was overkill for my app (but wouldn't hurt anything) and that the cheaper 6R12PP platinum plugs would last just as long without fouling.

I have the DCPR8EIX NGK Iridium plugs in mine and they workd fine. No noticeable difference in performance. Other than lasting a little longer the standard DCPR8 is probably fine.
