I've got the clunk and I don't really care. It could sound like a shotgun and I wouldn't care.
However - There's an obvious "forward lurch" - Just an instant, but it's an apparent forward 'tug' (although it doesn't actually move forward). Didn't happen with my '96 (Road King) - or at least, I don't remember it... But it's there on my '08 (Street Glide).
Not a big worry, as it doesn't actually continue to try to go forward or anything... But is this typical? Or is this just one of those situations where it wouldn't happen if I just held the clutch in for a while...?
I always figured it's just the motor showing a little enthusiasm...
(EDIT) Just saw on another thread that it's a basically normal thing considering several variables. Good enough for me.

Guys
Come on, it's a Harley that's what they do I've lived with it since the first Harley 83 Superglide. In thjose days that was the least of your problems!!On my 08 Dresser it does it less now since Ive put in the new HD Syn Oil and trans and crankcase fluid. If thats the only problem I have with my Harleys Id be happy as a pig in S***, LOL
Ride Safe Bill
Starting the bike with the clutch pulled should have zero effect on clunk. It is all about the correct clutch cable adjustment.Beyond that wrong primary fluid,a lot of people are using motor oil in the primary.
Hmmmm... MoCo tells me that Syn3 in all holes works fine. Isn't that motor oil in primary?? Mine clunks... it's how I know I'm in 1st!
