That worked for me. Pulled the clutch in for 4 to 5 seconds before shifting to first, thought it didn't shift without that clunk. Great tip. Now I have optional clunk capabilities. To clunk or not to clunk, that is the question.
I use this:V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProofŽ. I'm very happy with it. My bike, 09 EGC, still has a nice clunk, as a Harley should, but it's reduced, the bike shifts smoother and neutral is easy to find. They make a thicker gear oil, but here in Wisconsin I'm riding in cold weather, so I don't want it any thicker.

Well I have found that when I changed my Tranny Fluid and Primary Fluid at the 20,000 I put in Spectro Tran fluid for Harley 6 speed Trans and used the Spectro Primary Fluid as well and quite as a church mouse, Spectro makes a quilalty product and reading other forums everybody loves the stuff.
I know I am sold on it. The price for the Trans fluid was $16 and the primary was $9. Bought the stuff at cycle gear and can be orderd as well. Might want to give it a try the stuff works.
