Default Air flow over lowers

I know this has been hashed around before, I am sure. But I seem to get a lot of air coming over my lowers and then coming up and hitting me under the chin area. I can put my hand down beside the tank and it stops. Is there a cure for this, other than taking the lowers off. I ride a lot in the winter and it makes it damn cold with the wind hitting under the chin and blowing across the face, etc. Thanks in advance for any ideas. I thought about putting a set of the air deflectors on the forks, but think I read somewhere they won't work with lowers on the bike, looks like they would hit if the forks are turned all the way to lock.

The chrome fork mounted wind delectors P/N 58121-85B will get rid of 95% of the buffing your talking about. HD says the wont fit with the lowers, but I as well as many others have been running them with the new vented lowers without any problems. When you install them you'll need to trim the bottom of your faring mounted vents to let the vents open, otherwise no problems.

It's funny, because others on here say by putting lowers on their bikes, the buffeting was almost eliminated. I'm contemplating lowers also, either HD's or Hogg Chopps, as many have said they do a great job at reducing the air flow resulting in buffeting issues. Hmmm.... where does the truth reside....

Ok, that helps. Will see if I can find a set on ebay or used a little cheaper than HD wants for them. Thanks for the help. As always, ask a question and you will surely get the help you need on here.

beracing: I love my lowers in the winter and if it's raining. I remove them for summer riding(a lot of stop and go)the buffeting stops when they are removed. Put them on, especially the vented ones, they are great when it's cold, etc. I know some on here never remove them, and I didn't the first year, but then it got over 100 for a few days and I had to ride to work at 3 pm, so off they came and I am a happy rider in the summer..

Buffering is bouncing your head and glasses around. This guy is talking about a little wind hitting him under the chin.

I think anyway.

Fairing wings will remove that air-flow.

The air coming over the lowers goes between my fairing wings and the tank. I have the adjustable ones and have tried the stock ones, neither stops the air. It doesn't move my head or cause my helmet to shake. So guess it really isn't buffeting, just a cold blast of air on the chin all the time...

I also have the same problem. Looking to "Freedom Wings" air deflector. They are also adjustable so you can get more air during warmer weather.

Very interesting deicussion. I'm thinking of getting lower fairings for my SG to stop the same problem. Is that a bad idea now?

Anyway, I have installed the Fork Deflector on my SG and it did make a noticable improvement. Didn't fix the problem, but it helped a lot. Its a cheap solution, about $12 buck for the black one (RG) or $28 for chrome and takes about 10 minutes to install. I think the chrome would look better on your white. If it doesn't help your situation, I'm sure you could get most of your money back by selling it back on the forum or Ebay.
