Default Please help.....vibration????

I have been fighting a serious vibration in my '06 RG for about 1500 miles now. I dont mean the usual handlebar shake at idle. What I have is a vibration or buzz in the seat and floorboards between 2600 and 3000 rpm in every gear. Wouldn't you know that it happens at 60-65 mph in high gear....right where I do most of my riding. Anyone else got this? Anyone fixed it?

I had a new front motor mount installed at the dealer 500 miles ago.....no better.

Thanks in advance for any assistance....

Did they not address this when you went through the "leak" ordeal? You are having a rough season! Does the dealer tech not road test your bike to check on specified issues?

They keep trying to tell me that it is normal. Fact is, it was not there 1500 miles ago, and a vibration that puts your feet to sleep IS NOT NORMAL! I just went out and did my best to blow it up. I was running 115 mph down the interstate, 4th gear, bumping in and out of the rev limiter. I guess if nothing else, it was a pretty good test that it is not going to fly apart. I did a search on vibrations, but nothing conclusive....

Damn, Dude... What next!

Did the dealership that ended up fixing the leak also tell you it's "normal"?

Mine is really smooth, as was my o2 RG & EG before that. The only one I ever had that vibrated like that was a Heritage w/the rigid balance motor..... never on a rubber mount.

Is there anyone you ride with that has a similar FLT series bike that you can swap with to compare the amount of vibration.

I see you have the add-on floorboard inserts. Those are usually much softer than the stock ones and help to further isolate vibration. Does it occur as bad on the floorboards as it does on the hiway pegs?

Cams...Bob Woods 6G 510 lift....vibration was there before the cam change.

Have ridden other touring bikes...no vibration like mine.

Vibration is felt mostly in floorboards ( front and rear ) and in the seat, very little in the highway pegs.

I had a vibration earlier this year and was able to reduce it dramatically by sliding my mufflers in or out a little on the mounting bracket under the bags. Make sure your mufflers are centered on the rubber straps so you don't have metal on metal. This dramatically increases the vibration through your floorboards. Probably not the same issue just thought it might be worth a try.

The dealer just had all of this out fixing a tranny and primary leak. I would think that it would have at least changed ( better or worse ) if something in there was the culprit....

NoGood,

Is there any possibility that the headpipe or heat shield (coming off the front cylinder) is able to touch either the rear brake pedal or the right side floorboard when the engine vibrates normally?

I have had this occur more than once after installing new pipes. THe fix was either re-aligning the pipe or grinding the inner edge of the brake pedal. Admitedly, this happend with after maket pipes, not stock. As a test, you might ride the bike and while experiencing the vibration, depress the brake pedal slightly while maintaining the same throttle position and see if you notice and change in the degree of vibration.

Another possibility, if it touches the floorboard, is to shim the board out with a flat washer between the frame and board mount.
