Horn mostly broke...
Went on the Salvation Army Toy Run today, sponsored by the HOG at the dealer. Ran into the owner, Shelton Davis (owns 3 shops in NC) and chatted about my horn problem, old pan heads, and some other things. He suggested that I spray some tri-flow in the horn to "unstick it". OK fine....
Went on the toy run, got back to the shop for hot dogs and beans, and there he is again. He sends me into the shop to get a can of tri-flow. Al (good kid) hands me some kind of mild solvent. Well, I spray it in the horn and nothing -a bit better, but not street worthy. Walking back from the parking lot, Shelton (owner guy) stops me, goes with me into the shop, all the time carrying on about the tri-flow. He grabs a can, we go out into the parking lot, and here we have the owner of three shops in the area, on the ground with some paper towels and some tri-flow, trying to get my horn to work.
Now, I did mention something about "possibly" upgrading to the HD air horn, but made no real commitment. With credit for the stock replacement, it still was going to be over $150. I started talking about getting a Howards Horn for that kind of money. The tech (dang, forgot his name) suggested that if I was going to do that, then why not let him fix the stocker, so I'd at least have a horn until I got my Howard's.
In any event, I ended up getting my stock horn swapped out in about 5 minutes by the tech on duty. No problem, no hassle, "thanks for participating in the Toy Run" and off I go. And, did I mention that this was all on a Sunday?
So - bottom line, all dealers have to make a buck, and we all have problems parting with our dollars. This is the first bike I have purchased from Shelton's HD in Durham, NC. After the way I was treated today, I would have no problem sending a buddy there to do business with them.
Thanks Shelton and crew!
Oh yea, I did end up dropping $300 in Chrome Cash on some lighting do-dads, but I was gonna do that anyway.
