davessworks,

The weight of the bike rests on the bottom bearing keeping it tight. The grease is going to take the path of least resistance to get out, the top. The steering head may need to be snugged up a bit to equalize the pressure on the two bearing cups (to spec).

I'd leave it. Gravity will take care of the rest. (What Cheiron said too - make sure they are tight).

Yeah - I'm checking the steering head adjustment although the whole fall away adjustment approach doesn't seem to work so well on my bike due to wiring and throttle cables. Regarding the bike sitting on the lower bearing - good point - although I had the bike on a lift at the time.

You can temporarily tie a piece of heavy string/light cord around the bearing head where the grease is coming out and it will then force it out the other end. Works well.

Over greasing is just looking for trouble.

Being up with maintenance is a wonderful thing, but overkill sometimes ain't.

It's a neck bearing. It's spins at 0 rpm. Some grease, of course,.... but,......
