HD makes a special-purpose lube for the drive belts called Poly Lube. I have a tube of it that I bought a few months ago, so they still make it.

I've used a lot of it on farm equipment, but I wouldn't want any of it for my Harleys.

These belts are practically indestructable. Why would you want to mess with one?

first this is a cogged belt and pulley system, so unless you are missing cogs, the belt won't slip if properly adjusted.
second if the pulleys (sprockets) and the belt are in good condition and properly adjusted, the belt will normally be silent and not require the lube.
Personally I haven't used lube since we quit using chains.

It may make the belt easier for dirt to stick to it that will cause the pullies and belt to wear more than normal.

The drive belts on HD bikes are HTD Belt's. That stands for High Torque Delivery. They have pulley's that match the cogs on the belt. If properly adjusted they will last a long time. These belts do not stretch easily. anybody that knows these belts would not tell you to put lube on them. If they get loose they still won't slip. If they get too loose they will ride up on the cogs and break the belt, But they will not slip!!!

I have heard of these belts going around 90 thousand miles without any maintenance as long as they are adjusted properly.
