RKC2010,
thanks for the kind words and the link. It's too bad that harley has issues now. My version of the SERT is one of the best products that I've ever purchased from HD.
Getting back to HAG09FLHR; You don't neccarily need to go to a tuning software to get your results with your stage one, but if you plan on doing more stages in your motor it's the way to go if you trust yourself einough with tuning your own engine. It's a lot of money up front but you will gain it back in performance and at the gas pump!
If I would have known four years ago what I know now, I would have built a stage 3 motor back then, instead of putting cams in my big bore. As a result of going from a stage 2 to a stage 3 motor, I gained back the 10 miles per gallon that I lost with the stage 2 motor and I gained 20 more Ft lbs of torque and 25 more horses.
go with MasterTune all the way! I checked the Mastertune website out a minute ago and the windows based software is practically the same as mine. I bet it has much more upgrades since I bought my SERT in 2005 or 2006.
Hey all I am looking for some honest opinions good or bad. I have a 09 Road King that I want to put on a set of the V & H Monster ovals, A SE heavy Breather and the Harley tuner. I have talked to my service guy about this and he said that I would be very happy with this set up. Now I take what they say with a grain of salt due to them being "the dealers service guy" but they have not giving me any thing to distrust them at this point. (They even replaced my front tire before anyone here had said or I should say before I have read anything on it). So here is the question of the day. #1 Would I be happy with the improvment as far as tone of my exhaust (Main reason for this question when I ride with my bro's in a pack my bike sounds like it is battery powered know what I mean?). #2 would get much as far as noticable performance improvment over stock? And finally #3 would this be a good bang for my bucks? (this point worries me the most due to the economy being so shi**y here in Michigan can't afford a mistake). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated have followed a few ideas from here and they have been great so far.
"Freedom and Wind Outlast Hard Times" SCREW IT LETS RIDE!!
Haven't read all the previous posts, but IMO the 'Stage 1' is the best mod one can do to their bike. You don't mention getting true duels, just the MO's, but I would recommend going ahead and getting the TD's along with the breather, and an EFI management. There are several EFI modules out there, but whatever you get, get one that has an 'autotune' function on it. IMO, this will allow the EFI module to correct the settings not only from the mods, but how you ride as well.
You might want to take a look at this article by Cycle World magazine they installed the Monster Ovals on a bone stock 2009 Ultra and got some impressive results. This is not a Harley magazine so I think they are not biased in any way and tell it like they see it. Click on the link below to read the article.
