Default Aftermarket seats?

Are your aftermarket seats leather or vinyl? Will the leather seats hold water if you get stranded in the rain?

I prefer leather because it is more comfortable and also cooler in the summer. Leather breathes but I have never had a problem with the leather feeling wet. I do treat it with a leather care product such as a good leather dressing, not a polish.

Seats usually get wet through the seams, if at all.

I have used Corbin leather seats for about the last 12 years.

The seat you see in my pic is the stock non-leather seat and it did absorb water through a seam and wet my pants for at least two days on a trip. Never had this happen with a Corbin, however, the rain storm with the stock seat was the most severe that I have ridden in and it lasted for several days.

I've had a Mustang seat for nearly 5 years. It is vinyl. My wife and I did a trip form Ohio to Florida, to Mississippi, and back to Ohio in Oct 06. Caught a lot of rain on that trip. Never had an issue with water penetrating into the foam and simpling wiping the surface with a towel had me ready to ride.

I must not be treating my Cobin Solo seat often enough - when the bike is left out in the rain the seat absorbs enough water so that my jeans get wet riding the next day (Yes, I wipe it down first).

I bought a waterproof cover in an outdoor supply store that's used to cover backpacks. I put it on when I know it's going to rain. It does a good job of keeping the seat dry but the wet @ss doesn't bother me that much so I rarely put it on anyway.
