Default Biketronics install question

yes, I have viewed the sticky. just didn't find the answer I need.

this is the history... I bought the bike used, 08 FLHT. the original owner installed the radio, BUT, he said when he connected the YELLOW wire to a hot source, it ran the battery down... not sure why that happened or what he wired it into. so he wired it to something else. the radio works, but will not hold programs, etc because it is not on a constant hot wire.

anyone with info, and a PIC, would greatly be appreciated. I'm not the greatest wiring person, but I can get it hooked.

if I get this straightened out, man it would be a good thing. it's just aggravating having to reset the audio every time you go.

thanks a bunch and like Tiger sez... Ho Ho Ho

I called Biketronics. all they could tell me is find a hot wire and go for it.

Yep should be plug and play , no wiring should be involved!

Biketronics is correct. If you are wiring it straight in without the factory connector then you just find a constant power wire and hook that up to the yellow wire. Not sure why it would drain your battery unless it was a defective unit or he had it wired incorrectly. Do you have the biketronics module hooked up into your radio harness?

yes, it does have the Biketronics module. had the fairing off one time to install the 2 gauges to fill out the fairing. saw it, it's there.

when I spoke with Biketronics, they did mention the yellow wire.

If you have the biketronics module hooked up then check to see that the yellow wire from the head unit is hooked up to the yellow wire on the module

Do you have installation instructions from Biketronics? I recently sold my Sony/Biketronics set-up and included the instructions for the buyer, but IIRC, there are seven wires from the module that you splice to seven wires to the pigtail that plugs into the back of the head unit, and a separate, black 90* plug from the module that also installs in the back of the head unit. There are no positive/power wires from the module that are connected separately to the bike. The seven wires, IIRC, are: two (power/ground) for each speaker (total of 4); one ground, and two power/positive (one for switched power and one for unswitched power).

Sounds like the unit isn't wired correctly and you probably don't have the unswitched power wire that allows the head unit to retain settings/clock/etc. when the bike is switched "off."

Biketronics offers several different modules. The info above was for the BT1000, IIRC--I had mine for almost 4 years and it worked perfectly.
