On my 08 Ultra I bought the HD 5 year ESP and it definetly is an Extended Service Plan as stated on the HD contract.

Harley calls it an extended service plan. It's everybody's personal opinion how they feel about buying one. I think it's worth the money for the piece of mind it gives knowing if anything happens, you are covered on the road.
Plus it helps with resale. I wouldn't buy a bike that didn't have some warranty left. You never know what it's been through.

You don't need to feel bad for shopping the best price. That's what smart buyers do.

I called the dealership where I bought my bike, yesterday (Redding, Calif.). He's going to sell me the seven year extended warranty for my wife's year old street glide for the same 20% discount (that includes the $150 add on because the bike is a year old already) inclding tire and wheel pacakage for $1,730

I called Eagles Nest in Lathrop, Calif. and they offered the same package for $1,960......so I saved another $230 over their best deal.

Default HD makes my payments if I loose my job

I just found out about the HD Debt Protection Plan. Is this free if one is financing through
Harley or do they want a payment for this form of insurance?

http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/C...bmLocale=en_US

Debt Protection Plan

Harley-Davidson Financial Services has you covered should suddenly find yourself out of

work. The Debt Protection plan will cover your motorcycle loan payments in the event of

involuntary unemployment, you are unable to work due to illness or accident whether on or

off the job, and may even cancel your loan should your accident become fatal.

There are no extra bills to pay, the fee for this protection is based on your loan amount

and conveniently added to your agreement. The plan is only available at the time of purchase

and can be terminated at any time.

Don't delay, Debt Protection can help you through those unexpected tough financial times.

Ok, I bought my new 09 FLHT from a AAFES dealer (military) and I got the 3 year extended and he told me that it starts when I take delivery and not at the end of my two year factory warranty. Anyone know if this is true or not?

This is very true. This is why I dont understand people buying the extended warranty on a brand new bike. I dont believe in any extended warranties myself, but to each his own. It seems that if you do want one, you would be better buying it at the end of the manufactures warranty

It costs more when you buy the extended service plan more than 90 days after the purchase date. Additionally you get all the roadside assistance benefits from day 1 of ownership with the extended service plan that are not included in the manufacturer's warranty.

Here's more explanation of why you would want to purchase the extended service plan at the time of the bike's purchase. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/C...p?locale=en_US

If travel protection during the first couple years of ownership doesn't matter to you and you don't mind paying a few more $s down the road for the extended service plan, then you're probably best off buying it later.

If you negotiate the ESP price at the time you're interested in buying the bike, you are generally in the best position to negotiate the lowest price. I got my ESP for 25% off MSRP.

Ok I can see if you wanted to buy the plan for the roadside assistance during the first 2 years. But is a 5 year plan on a new bike cheaper than a 3 year plan purchased on a 2 year old bike? Excuse my ignorance on warranty pricing.

The 5 yr plan on a new bike and the 3 yr plan on a 2 yr old bike are the exact same plans. You'll pay more for that 3 yr ESP after 2 years of ownership then you will buying the plan at the start of ownership. Either way your coverage ends at the same time... 5 yrs from the day you originally bought the bike.
