The ESP on my '04 runs out at the end of this month.
I've been going back an forth on whether to renew.I was at North Texas HD today to get a part and figured I'd sit down and haggle prices for the heck of it.
He pulled out a price sheet for Used bikes for me to look over.It was in line with some of the higher prices that have been shown here.
1 yr 774
2 yr 1,019
3 yr 1.119
4 yr 1,490
5 yr 1,896
T&W not included in these prices.
I ask what price he could give me.....he just pointed at the price list.
I let him know that I knew he could do better than msrp.
"They won't let me sell them for less."
I told him they were too high and if he changes his mind to let me know.Otherwise, forget it.
This is a Big dealership and I was about the only one there on a beautiful sunny day.
Makes me wonder about the health of their business.
They must charge more the older the bike is, I called three Dealer's here in Tennessee. I was quoted 1644.00 for 5 extended years (no wheel coverage for that price) Mines a 08 ultra classic. I was also told you can buy your extended warranty from any Dealer. You might want to shop around.
Contact Jim Palmer @ Kutter HD in Wis. Great guy and dynamite prices. I don't have the # handy but you can goggle it. I got 5yr plus tire and wheel for 1199.00. My dealer couldn't come close.
PLUS 1..... Jim is a great guy,,thanks for the info. got the 7 year to cover the chinese bearings and all the other horror stories on this forum...if nothing else its peace of mind and a good selling point if and when I sell or I'll just take the prorated refund
You should ask your investment banker what he thinks of extended warranties, the only people they help are the dealer.
It's a proven fact that 99% of the time the warranty costs you more money than you ever get back from it.
When I started investing years ago this came up in the first meeting I had with my banker and he was right I canceled all the warranties I had and invested the money and have never needed a thing that would have cost what those warranties cost me.
I also know there will be at least one person out there that will say his warranty saved him a bundle and that be the same individual the Harley dealer uses to try and scare everyone into buying one.
What he said. You guys talk peace of mind. I think if I purchased an extended warranty for the price Harley wants I would be kicking myself over and over for wasting my money. They obviously make Harley a bunch or they wouldn't try so hard to get you to buy one. But it is human nature. Polls have been taken on here about extended warranties. Those that spent the money on them defend them by saying it gives them peace of mind. Ones that haven't purchased extended warranties will tell you it's a waste of money. I guess I look at it that if it breaks down I will fork over the money to fix it if and when that happens. Just hate to pay that much for something that percentages say I will never use. If the percentages weren't in Harley's favor they wouldn't sell em. But we all know that.

Tell that to the guy whose motor blows or tranny fails 3 months after his 2yr warranty runs out. It's insurance. How often do you make claims on your car insurance? You're gonna spend more on that in 5 yrs, than on an extended warranty. Your butt must be really sore for kicking yourself over that.
Personally, I can afford it and it doesn't bother me.

In 10 months I've gotten $1500 worth of towing, tires, and labor. It's paid for itself. I've got over 6 years left of coverage. Tell me, did I get a good deal?
As I've said before, if you bought a garage trophy, the ESP is a waste of money. If you actually ride, it's a bargain.
I am very glad that I am a member of this Forum. All opinions are very interesting. Since I live in Canada I would be interested in hearing from others in Canada about their experiences and whether the prices here are negotiable as well. Thanks
