The differences between the two are numerous. Having ridden my buddies 08 wing, i know a little about them. They are without a doubt more powerful, more refined and much smoother than our ultras. That being said, to me they have no class. When i see one of those things out on the road i think of a plastic spaceship, whereas an ultra is a beatiful work of art. The ultra is a wonderful motorcycle, you need to do the exhaust,a/c and get yourself programmer so you can cool that thing down some. After doing these mods which are a must, i believe you will be very satisfied with your choice.

Guess class is a matter of opinion.

See, they are telling you you need to purchase hundreds of dollars of stuff to make the Harley run properly, and that's hit and miss. What a money pit.

I just purchased a 09 Goldwing. Got tired of all the problems with my 08 Ultra SE3, not including the heat issue, and lack of power even on the 110 SE3. Loud, rough riding, oil leaking, continued recalls, have to spend thousands just get it to run right. Selling the 08 Ultra SE3 in the spring if it will hold up untill then. What a POS !!!!!!!!!

Go with the Goldwing and save yourself thousands of dollars, flustration and problems. The smoothness and power of the Goldwing is awsome, not to mention the realibility. Who gives a **** what others think, it's about what works for you..and your wallet, and I can assure you if you own a Harley it will cost you dearly !!

You can get a loaded Goldwing with ABS, comfort heat package and a moving map GPS nav system for around $21K out the door.

Unfortunately, those SE 110 motors haven't been all they should have been. Sorry to hear you were one of the ones who had more problems than they should have. Good luck with your GW. I have a couple of friends who love theirs. They're impressive bikes, just not for me.

I'm sure you won't have any trouble selling your ultra. Shoot me a pm when you're ready to sell, I might be interested.

I think the correct word for the Electra Glide - and the Ultra variety is -- Timeless. It is a bike that just represents Harley Davidson. Not taking away from the other models that we all love. The EG holds a top place forever.

I think the H GW is a well thought out touring machine. I just don't want one.

I have ridden, and now own a FLHTCU, and love it. I am happy with it out of the box. Only mods are floorboard extensions, and heel shifter removed. I did some flatland passing, and the bike pulled away nicely at 40 - 50 - 60 - 70 and more. I have no problem selecting the right gear for the task at hand. No power? It is fine the way it is. I am sure I could squeeze a few more HP out of this beast, but don't NEED it. The Harley tax is a self inflicted WANT for more. If you can afford it... go for it. It can add a little more fun. If all you can afford is an out of the box Ultra, it will do fine.

end of rant.

I dont think so.
I paid $16K OTD for mine in late 05
I was just in Powerhouse Honda (Owned by Mikes Harley Davidson) and I could get a 09 Goldwing for around $19K OTD for a standard one.
I myself dont need built in GPS, ABS, premium stereo, and airbag

I hope this doesn't come as a shock to you, but the Ultra Classic is loaded with Plastic. How about the windshield, fairing, lowers, side covers, saddle bags, belt guard, trip trunk?

I've owned and rode them all....Yamaha Road Star, Honda Gold Wing, BMW, and now a 09 Ultra Classic.

The Ultra is by far the best bike I ever owned. To me there is no compairson between the Ultra and the Wing.
