spark or gas?

i have a 90 ultra with 42000 miles. starts, idles, and runs grate, but... at 80 or so if you ease in to the throtle, it all most feels as if you are bumping the brake, no miss and it speeds up. if you twist i wide open it goes, no prob. and some times at speed, 80 or so it will cough back in carb. one spit then its fine. any help out there? thanks for any direction you can send me in

What carb? Need to check what pilot jet you have and that your accelerator pump timing is correct. Air/fuel mixture screw set wrong can cause the spit too.

I had the same problem on an older carbed ultra. The rubber intake boots had cracked and thus an air leak. That is why it would spit and cough when given light throttle but would run o.k. at WOT.
