I have the Ironside heated for my 08 SG (56049-08A). Replaced them once already, under warrenty.
Have read that they do not last long.
In any case, if I were to do it again, I would get the battery operated Gerbing gloves. Grips were good in the cold, but not enough under 40 or so degrees.
Grips were 250 and had the dealer install as part of the purchase. Gloves are not cheap either but do a better job at warming, last longer and need no install.
I just wrapped mine with leather grips, does the trick for me, and leather lasts a lot longer than the heating element on those grips. Much cheaper too. That and good gloves and I ride in any temp!
Has any of you actually installed the Harley heated grips on an internally wired 08? I read the instructions and my head started to spin! I'm thinking about tackling it though, but I sure would like to know what I'm getting into first!!!

Well mine are ordered so Looks like I'll be tackling it one way or another
I installed a set of HD heated grips on my wifes 08 Electra Glide as part of a handlebar swap. To be more accurate, I replaced an existing set with a smaller diameter set and spliced into the existing wire harness that was run back to the battery/fuse box as per the HD instructions by the dealer. I'm glad I didn't have to run that harness under the tank and connect it per the instructions. Very little room to work. I did however do the rest of the wiring with the TBW in the bars and it is a pain in the backside but can be done.
All of this was a huge waste of time though as they only worked twice. Don't waste your time and $$$ on HD heated grips. There are enough threads here about pre-mature failure to hopefully convince you to try something else. There is plenty of good feedback about Heat Demons although I haven't tried them. FWIW, I use Gerbings heated gloves.
Yes, I have heated grips on my 08 Ultra Classic. I had a set installed prior to taking delivery. The original heated grips were replaced under warranty this past November. When they work, they work fine.
I bought a set of heat demons and Wild-1 bagger apes. As the Heat Demon instructions say that some handlebars do not have enough room for the heat sleeve over the electronic throttle and you may need to bore out end of handlebar to 7/8" Now I can't find a bit long enough to do it...
I dont like all this negative talk about the HD grips. I just had a set installed by paul yaffe originals in my monkey bagger bars. If they stop working im screwed, i guess. Oh well. so far they have worked fine for 200 miles or so. like someone else mentioned they dont do real well below 40.
