Default Chopped TP VS. Fender rack

Anyone been down this road and offer some advice? Maybe someone has had both? I like the TP, but it would seem limited as to what I could carry in it. Of course I would be spending about triple the amount for the TP with everything needed.

I came up with $295.92 for everything needed for rack and $859.94 for everything needed for the TP.

Any advice? What would you do?

TIA

I'd get the King TP. Much more bang for the buck and make it detachable.

I bought both. No matter what I'm doing, solo or 2 up, or how long I'm traveling, I can pack accordingly. I even have the solo AND 2 up mounts for the tour pak. I think my cost on all the tourpak + hardware set up was $1000.00 to my door (from Chicago HD) and took exactly one month to the hour. Mine included the carpeted liner, lock cyl & keys, backrest pad, soft luggage, etc.

chopped pack carries quite a bit. 2 weeks on the road with the wife is no problem. you can always get a rack for the tour pak to throw an additional bag on if needed. that is what i had on the last bike. will probably do it on this one to tho i'm gonna try and find a black one.

i too got both the king pak and rack. have always got away with just the sissy bar, rack, and a bag with two of us on a trip. figured the tp would be more comforatable for her and just put a rack on the tp to strap and extra bag too

I think if you include the cost of the luggage or bag to go on the rack, you'll find the cost difference between the two gets closer. I bought the detachable rack and a Super T Bag which works great for just me for a far and as long as I want to go.

The King tour pak is for the wife when she is with me, much more comfortable for her than the regular sissy bar.

Happy wife = happy life............

The rack is only compairable to the tour pac if you add a sissy bar and luggage. Then the price becomes alot closer.Owning a Streetglide tells me you like that clean look so odds are that extra storage option will only be used on long trips.

To me I realy like the idea of locking the tour pack when Im in a strange place having lunch. You cant realy lock T bags to your bike.

I had the same problem but with QD mount, rack, backrest plus pad I was closer to $500.
After going round & round I went with a King Tour Pak, with the QD mount & rack and a chopped pad I was under $900.
The better deal for me was spending the $400 more on the Tour Pak.

Great info here guys, keep em coming!

I don't need a sissy bar since I'm always solo so that is out of the equation. Installing a rack on the TP is a good idea. What kind of weight can that hold?
