Hey Guys,
Got my TTS today.
I have a slight cable problem, I think.
I only have a Serial-To-Serial cable.
My laptop only has USB inputs.
I called TTS, they're giving me this spill that I need to buy their $80 dollar Serial-To-USB cable.
Can I not just go to Best Buy and pickup the Belkin Serial-To-USB adapter?
I've not seen one yet, but my Dealer says TTS has a new USB cable kit that has the Adapter hardwired so you only have the one end plugging into the interface and the other directly into your USB port.
IMO, it's simply eliminating one connection but is probably more desirable since very few laptops still have the serial ports.
If you figure in the retail of a good USB/Serial adapter along with the Serial Cable price their USB cable kit is not too far off.
Of course, the Belkin can be had for a lot less than retail. And I like the option of using the Belkin with my laptop, or removing it to hook directly into the Serial Port of my desktop that's in the Garage.
nothing should be special about the cable. an adapter to run serial to usb will work. I haven't tried it on the tts but have for other cables linking computers and it has no problem. Serial will be slower than usb but it's only time right.
Some users have had problems with other Serial Adapters. IMO, the TTS needs one that will support the required Baud Rate.
I tried both a Belkin and a Keyspan USB adapter. I could get those cables to work OK loading a new map to the ECM, but could not get either to last more than a few minutes trying to get data for a V-tune. It is would disconnect with connection errors. Real pain went you tried to get data on a 30 minute ride with the laptop in the tourpak!!! I gave up and bought the cables from TTS and IT WORKS!! I wish I had done that to start with. Would have saved a lot of time and money. For what it's worth you get both their USB adapter which is a FTDI adapter that is built right in the cable head so it plugs directly into the TTS Mastertune (so you do have one less cable to deal with) and a cable to the ECM (if you had a SERT you already have this cable).
When i receive my TTS last year i receive the wrong serial to usb cable from fulemoto, when i try to upload a map evrything stop at around 30% i send an email to Steve Cole at TTS and he told me that my cable was the problem,Jamie send me back the right cable and everything work fine

I highly recommend using the Serial/USB cable kit that TTS supplies. Yes they are overpriced, however this is the only USB adapter that we find works with all operating systems and without errors. Trust me, you dont want a data problem while sending a calibration.
Have done numerous 45 minute VTunes on my bike and others. With windows XP Pro and Vista. As long as the computers were set up with latest drivers, COM ports configured, and Vista was configured per the TTS Tuning Guide, all recordings were piece of cake.
All using the Belkin F5U109 & later F5U409 Adapters.
