OK, I'm running Windows XP, browsers are either IE or Firefox (newest version).
GPS is a Nuvi 1450.
I have the Garmin POI Loader program installed.
I need someone to tell me in lay terms how to download POI's to my PC, open them (GPX format), save them and install them on the Nuvi. If you have any sites that spell it out in easy to understand language, that would work too.
I can restore cars, repair and mod bikes but this stuff is like rocket science!!!!
Keep in mind that when you install new POI's that any old ones that you have are overwritten. If you need your old POI's back them up to an excel file, and incorporate the new ones into that file.
The easiest way I found was through the POIFriends website. You have to register (free) and then, you can upload any POI you want directly from their site to your GPS. No need to mess with files and what not. You should check it out. Their POI list is pretty impressive. If you want, they can e-mail you if POIs you downloaded gets updated.
On zumoforums.com there is a guy (his name is Dave 726) that has produced a .GPX file of all of the US Harley dealers that you can install as custom POIs on your Garman Zumo. I assume that you can also upload it to other Garmins but I don't know for sure. Harley makes them available on the HD versions of Garmin GPSs but prevents Garmin from putting them on the non-Harley units.
I've used zumoforums.com and the HD ride planner and with the planner you can just save the file to the right format and directly save it to your garmin while its hooked up to the computer. Works like a charm

Create a new folder on your computer and name it "POI".
When you download a POI to your computer direct it to download into the POI folder.
Plug your GPS into a USB port on your computer. You will need to buy a USB cable that matches the receptacle that powers the GPS.
Start the POI loader program. When it finds the GPS click through the software until it ask for the location of the POI.
Use browse to find the POI folder where the POI is stored.
Select the POI in that folder you want and it will show in the window of the soft ware. Click next and wait while the POI is installed.
The software will then tell you the files are installed.
On my nuvi 255w, I then press "Where to?" and scroll through the icons until I find the new icon "Extras" which is on the second screen. The added POI is located there.
Click the new icon and "Custom POIs" comes up. Click that and the installed POI list comes up.
