Hey Harleypingman, +1 on your post I'm with you all the way. Seems like we can't as a group of admirers have an appreciation and learn from somebody's vast skill/experience (which PhilM has plenty, he helped me with my build over the phone and not too many people would even consider doing that for a stranger or someone they have never even met before) without someone trying to **** on your leg.
Thanks for sharing your build with us! Awesome numbers, and some interesting points on cam selection too! Glad you brought that up. Great thread and I read all 24 pages. By the way, if you do any work for flappy lips (you know who I mean), I need some of what ur smokin!!!! Great thread! Maybe someday I'll hit the lotto and be able to follow in your footsteps........RIDE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT!!!!!

well phil, have you figured out whether the drive belt is going to have to be replaced with a chain? that's gotta be an awesome feeling to romp on it. great pictures, and the components look amazing.
Ya know I was riding my Ultra yesterday and wondering what it would be like with this motor in it, dammit, it has begun.
I am wonering why you needed to use the rocker box alignment pins? Has there been an issue with alignment on the rockers and coming apart? Or is it just with the new ones you installed? Where does the pin get pressed into? does it also align the rocker support plate?

That's a lot of power there. Congrats. I know your inbox has been flooded. Also glad the trash was removed. You have inspired me to contact tman. They may owe you by the end of the year.

So far, so good. Aside from the periodic wheelie & regular hard roll-on's, I'm really not "that" hard on it. However.... Time'll tell.... I know 3guyz.com has some really nice conversion offerings. : ()

The alignment pins are standard EVO lifter block alignment pins. You can use them in the crank vent holes to ensure that the rocker boxes are "square" on the heads. As a result, you end up with even clearance in both spring holes and have the top pocket for the pushrods properly located.
It is a tapered bolt that threads into the existing holes in the head. It is not used for the support plate because they are not long enough ~ GREAT question, though. Any of you machinists wanna make me a set that is long enough to get through both the rocker box AND rocker support plate?

Holler if I can help. I'll be glad to share what I know if it'll help ya.
Phil,
I can do it. I don't have any top ends taken apart right now to do some measuring. Can you stack an assembly on your bench; measure it out, send me the dimensions in a sketch. I will make them out of 4140, heat treat them, turn the final diameters to get rid of run out.
I'll probably make a set for myself. I've always eye balled my top end assemblies.

The problem with trying to do this for both the rocker support AND lower box is only the support will be centered by the tapered alignment pin, the lower box will still float free around the pin.
