turns on more often than not when I first start the bike. I originally thought it was because the starter would drag when first firing the motor and put a big load on the electrical, there by for some reason turn the radio on. I now keep it on a battery tender, but there is still drag when first starting, and the radio turns on probably 75% of the time.
Any ideas on why the radio is turning on? I called my local shop and was told they had never heard of something like this...
Mines an 07 but we have the same radio. Maybe I'm not understanding your problem but if I leave the radio on when I stop riding it will always be on when I restart. If I turn it off it will be off when I restart..
I found that if a CD is left in the player, the player will turn on when the bike is started. I'd be way more worried why your starter is dragging. My $.02

What he said. That's they way it's designed to work.

Common with all automotive audio, except mine is 'off' when I shut down the engine and I don't have a CD in the player. In fact, I never even turn on the radio 'on', as I just like to hear the wind and the exhaust. The radio is turning itself 'on' when first hitting the starter button, not when I first turn on the ignition.
Not sure what is going on, as it doesn't do it 100% of the time.
Welcome to the world of Harley and Harmon Kardon sound systems! I have an 06 Ultra and I just got it back from the shop after it's 6th visit that usually lasts 7-10 days for radio trouble. Harley and Harmon Kardon have had trouble with this radio set up since they started using it in 05, and the brain surgeons still use the same radio. I really have had continuous problems since day one and over 14k miles. Yeah, I know not a lot of miles. Good luck, be patient, and take it back when the weather/your schedule looks like you can spare the bike for a week. Buy the Extended Service Plan! Radios alone will show you this is a good buy!! Ride it and have fun... Dave
