Has anyone had any issues with the oil pump going out? If so, how many miles on the bike and what year. My dads 01 Standard has 53k on it and we were just wondering if we should replace it or just put it back in. Thanks, Luke

I had to have the one on my 02 replaced due to to cam bearing failure tearing it up. Not sure why you have pump out I'm guessing replacing chain tensioners. If you have it this far I would consider upgrading tensioners to hydraulic set up. This kit will have a high flow oil pump.
If you are on a budget I would think you would be fine with replacing bearings and tensioners. Judging by your current mileage the OEM set up should last you another 8-9 years.
Thanks. We are going with gear drive...so no tensioners. He just didn't want to spend the $350 if it really isn't necessary. If they usually go out at 100k, well, we will wait then.

If it was me I would replace pump just for piece of mind. But in all honesty maybe an inspection of rotors and housing you may be fine. If there is any scoring then replace.

I'd replace, did that to my 01RKC at around 40K when I put andrews gear drive and cams in. Believe I used one from a later bike that worked better according to the parts guy.
The Harley oil pumps are a fairly stout part but if I'm doing a cam change I'd replace it with the new cam plate/pump kit. Its more money but it'll save more later if it does decide to go.
