imo, I think anyone who does not do their homework when making major changes to their ride is a goof and has money to burn. Let him go so you can say I told you so when he's bitchin about it later over a couple of beers. Some people just like to learn the hard way!
i had the dealer i go to do a 103 HQ on my other bike. They sent the cylinders and heads to them for the work. When they got it back, my dealer put it all together. They do mostly HQ builds. I was extremely please with the work done. I have dyno's but am not going to look for them to copy and upload. Bike had HQ 103ci, V&H big shots, SE heavy breather, power commander. Results were: 106 hp, 115tq. I am sure many can find others to do as good or better. But I was very please. Bike ran like a champ. Put 7000 miles on it and still strong and smooth.
Try calling Star Racing for more info they are in Americus , GA PH# 1-229-924-0031 They may be a little higher than some but depending on how far they are from you guys I would at least talk to them.
Thanks everyone, well the good weather has delayed my buddy from taking his bike to get built. He want's to go ride so as usual I'm ready. ROCHKES the reason I'm suspect of the guy he was going to take it to is because my buddy took his 07 classic to him for cams and the cams the guy put in were HUGE. I can't remember the specs but they were in the neighborhood of 600 lift and 260 duration. Might have worked on a dyna or something lite, but on a heavy bike? my buddy was pleased at first because he went from stock to true duals, breather, thunder max, and cams. so beetween the louder bike and better breathing he noticed a huge difference. But he kept saying "it starts to really pull and BAHM the da** rev limiter kicks in.
If wilson is off of northprice rd, then I can probably hit him with a rock from my house!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out. I'll keep ya'll informed of what happens.
There's nothing wrong with 600 plus lift on a bagger, as long as the rest of the motor is built to the standards needed.......that size lift should be built with more intake and exhaust capacity, more compression, and most importantally.....a good tune................just saying, if you're gonna do it, do it all.................. and part of the tune should be to extend the rev limiter......
while Wilson did a good job putting my HQs 103 together (2006) he completely ruined two of my two club brother's bikes. One had his motor powder coated prior to the build -- the internal motor was not cleaned prior to putting together; the motor blew up on the dyno on his second try he was supposed to get the crank trued and welded, it did not happen. Second bike leaked oil from the base gaskets after 500 miles, same thing with the crank. Kevin is the service manager at Granite Mtn HD, if I was doing anything HQs I would take it there; he oversees every motor build. He built two 107's for me.
+1 Kevin also now has a website and you can contact him through the site at www.protwin.com
Way too many science projects being built as far as components that don't work well together and end up being a biotch to tune and poor rideability. Go with a proven build such as from HQ, Tman, Hillside or others than have done the same build over and over and get good results.
