Default Help me pick out different cams

My combo is in my sig below. The bike runs good but I hate the throttle lag at low end. I've been told numerous times that my cams need more compression than what I have to net a crisp off idle throttle response.

I even called Woods cams and he said they will work with 10.1 comp but wouldn't really recommend another cam until I go get a dyno tune. The place he wants me to go is two hours away and I just don't have time to mess with that. I have a T Max for that reason.

I bought my bike used with the motor work completed so I called the Harley shop that did the motor and they basically said that is how they do all their 110's. It makes good power on the dyno but it's a slob when you crack the throttle.

Here is the work that was done and the dyno sheet.

The heads were hand ported and decked for more compression. Do I really have 10.1?? Who knows. Woods cams said I have the right cranking compression for that number but like I said who knows??

Most folks would be plenty happy with those numbers and curves. Maybe ya need to learn how to downshift?? We can be little help if ya won't listen to woods...

Like I said I'm happy with the power the bike makes I just hate the off idle response.

How is downshifting remotely related to my original post?

I own a small business so it's very difficult for me to take the time for a dyno tune that may or may not help.

Based on your dyno numbers, it looks like the torque comes on at a considerable higher RPM than say a 222 or a 555. I'd say the guy that you bought the bike from had different goals when he was putting the package together. If I were you, I'd call Jamie at Fuel Moto and talk to him. I'll bet a 555 w/ a Power Vision would make you happy. It will also save you the necessity(and time) of getting the dyno tune. I'm running the 222 and PV from them in a 103 and I am real happy.

I agree, I think the previous owner was looking for a big dyno number. Dyno numbers don't always mean everything.

I think the bike would be more fun to ride and just as quick with the TQ coming in a little sooner. Plus I think the low rpm's would be more responsive which is what I'm looking for.

No bike makes good off idle power and big numbers.. that is impossible.. So you have to decide what you really want. My "tiny" 510 S&S cams have great low end but the bike makes 86hp and 96ft lbs of torque.. so I have the different build in my RG where that doesn't have great power throttle response until 2600rpm and up.. that build makes 124ft lbs and 108 hp.. you can't have low rpm response off idle and have big numbers..
Also all parts have to work together, right sized injectors, intake-throttle body and exhaust..

I will have to disagree with you a little on this one. I'm no expert so I mean no disrespect. My brother in law has a built 113 that makes more power than my bike and his low end throttle response is wicked fast. Just blip the throttle from idle and it revs to 3 grand right now. His build is better than mine combo wise so that has some effect as well.

And... the REASON one should always put in where they actually live, in the 'location' box is so that when help is needed, one can recommend someone who has some sense, like a good Indy or a good Tuner, etc.

AND... a real live tune, and not some dealer BS will take TWO days and the bike will need to be dropped off and picked back up. Unless, of course, you wish a so so tune, which can already be had with the TMax.

Now... the haters will crawl out and tell you how a bike can be tuned in 15 minutes on a dyno with about 15 miles of tuning miles. NOT SO, and if nothing else.. don't buy into this crap. Why two days? This allows a GOOD tuner a couple shots at the bike dead nuts cold... NOT cooled down with fans, but real live cold. Getting the VEs set is the LEAST of things anymore. Things like cold start settings (so bike is NICE warming up), playing with timing, and various offset tables for that NICE throttle response, etc... these are what a GOOD tune is all about. It does take time, and it does take a cold bike to do things right. Finding tuners who do all of these things is NOT easy to find, and that is why I wished to see where you lived.

So... post up some CCP numbers, and with knowing the 9Bs are in there, we can start to work it backwards and see what GOOD cams may be available to you.

CCP is 180 rear and 182 front.

Yes I did get the stock ECM and a SEPRT with the bike. That's what they created the dyno sheet with. The bike ran hard but pinged quite a bit under load and that was in 60 degree weather. I bought the software and computer cable to tune with the SEPRT but the interface sucks so I went with the TMax. People either love them or hate them. My brother in law has the built 113 and he likes the TMax so I went with it. Some day I would like to do a pro tune with the TMax just so I can have a custom map with timing for my set up.

Sure my rpms jump from idle to 3k to neutral in an instant, but not with a load.. like I said you need to figure out what you want peak numbers or low end.. my bike is still faster than stock below 2500 rpms but doesnt really pull hard (yank your arms) until 2600 and up..

If your buddies bike is so great just copy what he has.. Why ask a bunch of "know it all's" on here.. hahahahaa..
