Just had a 103 mod done to 2009 RG......it is crap.....I was told torque inprovement at 2500 rpm to 3000 was great.....the opposite is true. The engine acts like it is laboring to get over the 3000 rpm level. New cam makes run rougher at low street speeds......this 103 has converted the bike to an 88. Dealer is dealing with pipe backpressure issues....new screaming eagles are going on.....
Not sure that SE mufflers are the cure. Not sure that back-pressure is the problem.
Have they checked the EFI mod calibrations or are they even competent at calibrating? Did you add a SEST or PC-V, etc? If not, I would give consideration to this.
The fact is the HD heads don't breath as well as say the S&S heads and perhaps you were expecting too much.
Whatever the issue it would appear the dealer needs to revisit what was done instead of simply adding their own slip-ons.
That doesn't seem right. Like KoalaCowboy said, was it dyno'd? SERT? or some other tuner? A little more info needed. I have an 09 103 and when I goose it at 3000 rpm, it really takes off
A 103 alone won't make much difference in performance, but it should not make it run worse. I couldn't blame the mufflers, as even with stockers installed it should still run better than a stock TC96. Hard to tell with so little info, as we need to know if it was a full Stage II or just a 103, what tuner or ECM download is being used (if any), etc.
Given that he stated "new cams" and 103 upgrade, it's "more than likely" a Stage 2 HD kit with 255 cams ~ in which case it should at least run "decent", somewhat better than stock.
A couple quick things to check things to look at on this one.
1) As has been mentioned - TUNE.... The tune will make or BREAK a build.
2) Assembly. Things like intake leak (impossible to tune), oil pump alignment / installation (can cause sumping).
3) Was it "tuned" or did they just throw some random HD flash into the computer?
First off ~ it sounds like your dealer is of marginal competence, based solely on the fact that they would deliver the bike in such a condtition. I would strongly consider finding someone ELSE to "fix it".
You DO NOT need S/E heads!!!!! Let me repeat that. YOU DO NOT NEED S/E HEADS!
The cams in that package are NOT designed to work with those heads. **Unless** they used the wrong cam in the first place.
DANGER Will Robinson.... Find someone with a clue... do not have $10/hr monkeys experimenting on your scoot!

any ideas...thoughts...comments...solutions
the only comment i can make is i feel sorry for you,hd dealers just want the money why would any one pay hd for any parts that should should have been installed in the first place. i have seen a lot of promises come from the dealer on thier builds and they are far less superior then friends that have gone totally after market with S&S parts, fueling makes good parts and any good machine shop can shave the heads and port and polish them and they can also bore cyclinders for you.B ut in all honestly it always seems like its the new rider that dose not have any harley experience that puts the bill on the cheap talk of the stealers.(tell the stupid S.O.B'S fix it or get your money back)and if they refuse to work work you just start showing up on saturdays when they are having thier welfare feeds for the hog members and then get in to a shouting match with the service manager!!!!!
