I bought a rack like what you are describing from FBI..I believe it was $289 in chrome if I remember correctly. It is a really well made nice looking piece...sturdy as hell too! They also make it in Black and Raw. I will try and get around to posting a pic tomorrow.

Should work fine...but the factory front bushing might not be up to the extra loading it'll get with the extra leverage it going see with that setup...update that and you should be fine. Carl could tell you more on that.

I haven't done this to mine yet but it sure would make taking the hoops on and off easier.

Well my project earlier this year was to make a rack to hold my detachables and also the bracket I made to eliminate the unsightly hoops on the back of my 04 bike. It's nice running a full fabrication shop. You can also see where I made some stainless spikes to plug the holes where I cut off the old bar that went around the fender. Totally cleaned up the rear of the bike.

I will post additional pics of the bracket on the bike soon but basically I just hook it on the front backrest mount and the original front tourpack mount which I had to shim out just a bit to be in line with the backrest mount. I liked this design better than some I have seen. It just looks stronger because it distributes the weight better. I just hate spending money on something I can make.

I may get the bracket chromed later but I figure why waste the money when I seldom have the tourpak on any longer than it takes to get to my destination then it goes in the closet or tent or wherever I am staying on my trip. It is stainless so I may get bored and polish it up at least on the sides that show.

My first trip with this was to Houston and back loaded as seen in the pic which was about 2000 miles. It held up fine.

That's the setup I had on my '07. Glad they changed it for '09's and later.

It's still on the ugly side, but at least it doesn't come sticking out the back of the bike like its predecessor.
