Many people have complained about the fairing mounting kit bracket #92100-05. I have had my mounting kit on order since 7/13/06 (charged to my credit card) and another person ordered his on 6/12/06 and the unit is still on backorder from Harley.
Does anyone know if it on backorder because changes are being made to repair the problem or am I going to get the same piece of crap?
the hot shoe(that part that mounts against the fairing) is the responsibility of harley. There had also been a problem with the cradle( that part that holds the unit and snaps into the harley mount) which is the resposibility of Garmin. Garmin has sent me a new cradle which looks like the old one but according to them is made of tougher stuff.I am still using my original Harley hot shoe.If there is a new one I am not aware of it. p/n for the cradle is 010-00376-00. thats the garmin#. If ordering it from HD the # is 92106-05. Is HD making an improvement to the hot shoe?? Please let us all know.
It may be a piece of crap to some but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've had mine on for the last 17,000 miles and it'll be there when I go to Sturgis. Not problem one! I seldom remove the Quest II from the cradle (custom painted to match my fairing). 99.9% of the time when I stop I remove the Quest and the cradle as a unit and place it into the HD case that was designed to accomodate both withOUT disassembly.
If there is anything wrong I'd say it's with the operator and not the design! But that said mine will probably fall off at 70 mph and I'll be cussing too! ;=]
btw: Try Boston Harley. They had several in stock a few months ago when I got mine!

Well I called another dealer and he had one in stock, so I went up to get it yesterday. I installed it last night and feel the unit is well made and I don't think I will have any problem with it. I call the old liarship and canceled the order and the were nice to remove it from my credit card after waiting a month to get it not knowing it was on back order from the start and with no end in sight.
I think I will change from that liarship to a good dealership.
