I brought my 06 ElectraGlide Std to a dealership to have the Active Performace Exhaust and Air Kit installed along with the SERT kit...had read nothing but negative about the download and decided to spend the extra $$ to have the adjustability later. After 5 hours of installs they called me to tell me that my bike was ready. When I went in to pick it up, they informed me that the SERT kit is not compatible with the Active Performance Exhaust and they had to install the download. Needless to say, mainly because no one called me first, I was very PISSED OFF! They gave me an explanation that the SERT does not allow for the baffle in the exhaust to adjust flow between left and right. I guess I am confused because I assumed that the download was nothing more than a predefined SERT setup w/o the software and bike connection. Can't the SERT adjust the same settings as the download? Meaning, if the download changes items 1, 2 & 3 to given specs, doesn't the SERT allow for the same changes plus a whole lot more? Can someone explain to me? I suspect the stealership makes more money with the download ($150.00 for a file - what a racket!) and they were not interested in figuring out the Active Performance Exhaust setup....help?
I would be pissed too!
I think they should have told you this before the work was done.I would tell them to change out the pipe at their cost.
It does not make sense that a download can only be used.
I'm sure someone here can answer your question or call a different dealer and ask.
nh glide, you have a poor dyno/dealer/tuner...the SERT is has 220+ changeable parameters, more than ANY other programmer on the market...it can be tuned for ANY combination....in fact, if you peruse the files provided you on the CD, you can do much better than the download your half-assed dealer forced on you...lots of HD dealers treat their customers like its fast food, meaning they think we're all Lemmings and will believe what they say and follow and if we get pissed and leave their idea is "who cares, NEXT"....no way with me, i enjoy my bike and have learned to do anything regarding service of any kind on the bike....do this, start studyin the maps on your SERT CD, pick one and load it up....ride it around some...pic another and do so til your bike rides and performs they way you think it should...it'll be the start of you NEVER having a stealer touch your bike again
if you'll tell me whats on your bike exactly, i'll choose a few maps for you to load
Thanks for the responses but would love to hear from someone who has the SERT and Active Performance Exhaust installed. I am absolutely amazed that dealerships are allowed to treat customers the way they do - I have been to 3 different dealerships to find one that treats customers like the customer is doing the dealership the favor and not the other way around. I love my bike, but will make a prediction that if Harley Davidson (the company) does not get a handle of the **** POOR service their customers are given, AMF or some other logo will be on the side of a lot of bikes.
Most dealers are clueless about the SERT. As a result the just screw with the canned downloads. For what it's worth: My dealer spent 6 hours screwing around and I ended up with 65/70 and mpg dropped to 32. I took the bike to a knowlegeable tuner (non dealer and within 45 minutes I was at 75/80 and get in the high 40's for mileage. Check my post of a few days ago where I listed the MPG on my Yellowstone ride. You don't need a Power Comander just a qualified tuner!
As for your exhaust, you won't get the performance and mileage that a 2-1 will get but it should be closer than you are now!
Again most dealers are clueless about SERT's and are totally incapable of understanding and adjusting the several hundred possible adjustments. The PCIII is far easier for them but it creates other issues (check the posts).
I have an 06 ultra with a big bore II kit and Active performance Muffler Kit. The active exhaust has to have a program downloaded to the ECM to be able to activate the exhaust. The stock ECM does not have any way to move the butterfly valve in the muffler. Please don't flame me but the parts manual does say "Required ECM Calibration". Available for 1450 Stage 1, 1550 Stage 1, and 1550 Stage 11 configurations.
THE ACTICE EXHAUST HAS ITS OWN ECM THAT TAKES INFO FROM THE BIKES ECM TO MOVE THE BUTTERFLY. THERE IS A DOWN LOAD FOR THE BIKES ECM TO LET IT KNOW THE ACTIVE EXHAUST IS ON THE BIKE AND THAT DOWNLOAD CORESPONDS TO THE EQUIPMENT ON THE BIKE, BIG BORE KIT, CAMS AND ALL THE FUN STUFF BUT I CAN'T SEE WHY A SERT CANT BE CALIBRATED TO WORK WITH IT. I'LL DIG A LITTLE DEEPER TO SEE IF I CAN FIND OUT FOR SURE BUT I THINK I WOULD RUN NOT WALK OUT OF THE DEALER AND FIND A GOOD TUNER IN YOUR AREA THAT IS ABLE TO FIND HIS *** WITH BOTH HANDS. JUST MY .02
