FYI, I am pretty sure the Samrttune feature only works on '10 and newer ouring bikes. I don't think you can use it on '09 and later bikes But I may be wrong.

While you need to have the 2010 version of the SEST to have access to Smarttune, it will function with any bike that has O2 sensors that has been mated to the software and VCI (key), even those models earlier than 2010.
No recalls to my knowledge and for that matter no reliability issues Ive seen either. Every now and then when getting ready to do a download it would not comm but it was a simple as unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back in. Never seen one fail, loose a map or have a PC style no start.
Figured as much - Thanks! Wonder why they made a big thing out of it and made the part a different color. Perhaps they (H-D) figure a few owners with more money than sense will buy a new one!
Seems to me (from the Ebay link below) liike the "B"s and "A"s are all mixed up.. I'm seeing both models in either black or orange. Maybe someone in the know can steer us to which (or if) one is better for what year bikes and why. A previous post stated that you needed to have the 2010 version to have the "Smartune" feature.
Maybe I can simplify this question:
Hey HOG-DOC, which model number SEST would you suggest I buy for an 09 Ultra?
If I do go with SEST, can I assume that it's just a plug and play replacement for my PCV then we add or build a good base map, remove the 02 eliminators to re-enable the sensors and go from there with Smartune or Dyno adjustments?
B is the new build and A will now be sold thru'. They won't make any more A versions. The B part was introduced March 2010 and thus there's still A and B out there. Either will work but if I was buying a new one I guess I'd be looking for the B version.
BTW - I have the software and the cable (and the training DVD). Maybe you and I should get together and figure this stuff out!

Sounds good Dave. I just want to be sure that I buy the best and smartest SEST version and get this all figured out before I do the 255's in May.
Sounds like a plan. I've heard some recommend that if you already have a PCV it's a bit of a waste going to SEST but having had a PCIII on my Fatboy it seems like a good idea to me ;-)
