My 09 SG will not start in gear with the clutch lever engaged. It will only start while in neutral. This has been happening intermittenly for awhile but now it will only start in neutral. Does anyone have an idea what maybe the problem.
Not sure my 2010 will either - this is a bad thing? I guess if you stall out at a light or something. My 2001 will.
I think there's a clutch switch interlock - perhaps your's is defective. Apparently the bikes are now designed to prevent accidental starting in gear with the clutch out - but when you pull the cluch in you should be able to start.
I believe the switch is in the clutch lever handle assy.

Mine does start in gear with the clutch engaged. It sounds like you may have a sensor that needs to be adjusted or replaced. I don't know, just guessing. Do you have a service manual?
The safety feature WILL allow you to start in gear when you pull in the clutch. There is an interlock on the perch of the lower left side housing. You may either have faulty wiring or switch went out. either way take it to the dealer, this is a warranty issue.
