Where to get paint?
I just posted the following on another thread, but it still applies:
You can repair the any stock painted surface with (1) the right color and (2) proper, patient technique.
For proper color, take a look at the vendor Color Rite: http://www.colorrite.com/
As for "technique," my primary suggestion is, "Have Patience!" Here's my story: My 02 EGC inner flat-black fairing had badly faded on the ends & a couple of places near the gauges. I spent several hours carefully masking, & shot the whole mess "flat black." It really came out well.
That started me thinking. Another thread led me to Color Rite, & I eventually ordered a 'stick' and a spray can of my bike's paint [Luxury Rich Red]. The match of both was flawless "spot on" or whatever you want to call it.
I used the stick where I had scraped the factory paint on the outer fairing & on the tourpack, in a couple of cases right down to the fiberglass. After wet-sanding the factory-painted surfaces to get rid of surface irregularities, I was able to use the aerosol spray to restore the factory appearance. [I still need to buff out the edges to get rid of overspray.] A friend looked at the locations I had repaired & couldn't tell it had been repaired.
That led me to masking off the inner fairing around the gauges, & shooting the perimeter. I did not shoot sufficient coats of color nor clear, nor have I buffed out the inner fairing, so it has come out a "semi-gloss" - & have found it is colorful but not too glaring when the sun is over one shoulder or the other. The color match, as stated earlier, was [u]perfect[u].
So, my suggestion is "go for it!" You are no worse off than you are now. But, do have paint thinner in case you really screw it up. Maybe practice on your kid's Tonka truck first . . .
