I was in the same situation as you when I replaced my bars on my 08 RK.

I replaced the stock bushings with the poly bushings as well as the stock washers with the aluminum thicker washers that came with the poly bushings kit. Like you, my riser cover would not fit properly. I don't know if your kit came with thicker washers or just the bushings, but if it did come with thicker washers, I think that may be the problem.

For me, the problem was the thicker aftermarket washers that came with the poly bushings kit. I re used the stock washers instead of the thicker washers. That little bit of difference made everything button up properly.

This was on a 2008 RK, so I can't speak for the specifics of your bike.

Hope this helps

Well, I finally got everything to fit correctly on this project. Ended up having 1/4" milled off the bottoms of the stock risers. I figured that with the extra thickness of the bar (1/8" at the top half of the bar), and the extra thickness of the poly bushings (another 1/8"), that should do it and sure enough, it now fits perfect. Thanks to you guys for the helpful replies and maybe this will help someone else too as I know it's a popular project on the RK. I'm real happy with how it turned out, although I think I have decreased the amount of space for the brake line and throttle/idle cables to go through the nacelle cutout, since the riser sits lower in there now. But they aren't binding or pinched so I'll run it and see how it goes. I did replace those with braided, and got them long enough to go 2 to 4 inches higher with the bars if I choose to later.

Thanks again guys!

I ran in this same problem when I was putting on a nacelle kit on my 1992 FLHS which had the big ugly gauge pod on it. I could not get the riser cover to sit down because it was hitting the clamp. I also had a one piece clamp. I looked at it and looked at it because I also did not want to "modify" any parts. I came up with the solution of switching the risers by taking the left one and putting it in the right side and vice versa. This puts the "widest" side of the clamp on the top or towards the front of the bike. This gave the room to drop the cover down.

Thanks, I did not consider that. I thought that the widest part of the clamp was already on the "front" side of the bar, but don't remember for sure. I'm getting ready to replace my bars with some taller ones, so I'll check it out. BTW, my previous ride was a 93 FLHS that I rode for 13 years.....a great bike as I'm sure you know - great enough to overlook the hideous instrument cluster for that long!
