Hi, I'm adding a king tour pack on a street glide with the quick detach solo mounting kit so i can use it as a back rest for going on trips. Do i have to change the original seat to a solo seat or will it fit over it?
Consider that with the money you will spend for a solo seat to make this work, you could just purchase a rider backrest and mount the tourpack in the two up position.
Using the solo position tourpack as a rider backrest seems to be pretty hit and miss, as to if it is in the right position for a given persons comfort. If you just went with a rider backrest, you would have far more adjustability, (even the non adjustable models can be mounted to several different positions.... and have some height and tilt adjustment) and could use the tourpack when riding two up, and could use the rider backrest WITHOUT the tourpack on the bike.
Just my two cents. But from what Ive read over the years, you have a at best a 50/50 chance of the tourpack being in a comfortable position for you to use it as a rider backrest.
I have been thinking about the same setup, tourpac for both two up and solo. I do like the idea of riding solo with the tourpac as it moves the center of gravity forward and I ride solo most of the time. Positioned for two up the weight of the tourpac and contents is rear of the rear wheel. This changes the handling of the bike. I think aftermarket mounts will allow the tourpac to be mounted and used with a stock 07 FLHX seat.
Thank you all for the info, i have the 09 street glide and ride solo all the time, my wife drives a sportster, il have to try and see i guess, and if i have to il get a solo seat, any recommendations, does harley make a good solo seat or should i get a corbin seat?
