Has anyone tried the nightrider plug ins to richen the air fuel mixture. Are they worth almost $200. What do they do to mileage?
I put on the 02IEDs 16 months and 40,000 miles ago. The 02s are not quite as rich as the XIEDs. They made a big difference. Cooled the engine and gave it more power allowing me to shift into 6th gear at a lower speed and not feel like it was lugging. It affected my MPG very little. Just a couple MPG. When I bought mine they were under a hundred bucks. Still the best money I have spent.
Just checked Nightrider's site and the XiEDs are listed for $109.99/ pair and the O2iEDs are $79.99/ pair. I have had XiEDs on the Ultra for a little less than a year and am very pleased with them. They aren't a replacement for an all out fuel management device such as a PC-V but for what they are and what they cost they do an excellent job. I noticed the reduced heat from the engine and increased throttle response immediately. No more stumble off idle and as stated above the gas mileage drop wasn't significant. After about a year or so I was wondering if they were really doing anything and removed them and went for a ride. OMFG!!! That was the worst my bike has ever performed. Horrendous stumble off idle, had to rev the motor like an a$$ to keep it from stalling or surging in traffic and the heat from the motor was crazy. Of course it was summer but still I noticed the heat difference. While perusing the Touring Parts For Sale section of the forum I routinely see XiEDs for sale for around $60 to $80+ shipping. Not a bad price to pay for minor mods. Will probably go for a PC-V at some point when I do a full Stage 1 and cam swap but for now XiEDs work great.
There's a 4000 post thread in the tech section on the Nightrider IED's.
I had them and I liked them. Did what they were suppose to do, but now my warranty is finished and I've moved up.
I have a set with no complaints. Don't know if they have really helped or not, but don't seemed to have hurt either. There was a pair that sold recently where the poster said he had Rineharts and a Big Sucker when he ran his with no problems.
Have no complaints here, bought the Xied'swhen they were first offered for my 09 that plug into the o2 sensor plugs and the rear wire needs to be grounded. The install took a whole 10 to 15 min. and wow!! I was beginning to think that for some time my clutch was always slipping only to find out its from the air/fuel mixture. Now it pulls itself right along, no prob. Pulls harder now so I don't have to down shift to pass a car. Love'em!!!!
I've had my XIED's for over a year and can say that I'm happy with them overall. They brought the heat down, and that was my concern. For the price they can't be beat, but they are not the end-all, be-all. I'll have a tuner on my bike soon.
