I had a set of headers for a V8 engine Silver ceramic coated by Jet-Hot and was very satisfied. It made a big difference in reducing heat.
Back in the 08's we used to have them do our hot rod stuff and it always seemed like THE ****. But today? Why do I say that? After I unwrapped the headers, they looked great, damn near like chrome. I put them on the bike, along with a/c and proper tuner so she's not running lean--as in hot, and less than 60 miles later that bright pretty silver ceramic now looks like medium mouse gray. Looks like **** and it kills the look of the bike as far as I'm concerned. Tomorrow I'm off to take pics of the bike in general because it's finally done (well, done enough to post pics!) and quite a few nice people keep asking about the bike, so I'll post some. But when I do, know that the pipes were SUPPOSED to stay shiny and the shields were supposed to be GLOSS black. Shame on Jet Hot for not being up front about it.
Hey Joe, PowderPro guy, can you post a close up of a gloss black that has been 'in service'? I feel a charge dispute coming due to zero response from Jet Hot and it may help fund a redo. I have to admit, I'd hate to tear it all off and deal with down time again. But worth it if I can truly get what I'm looking for.
Sorry 'bout your luck, but my experience with Jet-Hot was all good and I will continue to use them.
Call me envious then! And I'll show you why. If you are familiar with their Sterling, it looks damn near like chrome, and it did right about up until I installed the pipes. I mean, once I removed the plastic from the pipes they dulled a little bit. But I just figured it was because I was getting my fingerprints on them. Of course, you need to clean them before you fire up the bike. Having said that, the pipes turned a mouse gray immediately after the first ride.
Small update, I finally got a sort-of reply from Jet Hot when I sent them a photo. Their first question was regarding how high the exhaust temp is on the bike. Had I thrown the entire exhaust and a/c on the already lean running bike without putting a tuner on it, I'd be able to understand a heat issue. But with a cooler running engine and drilled heat shields that won't trap heat, I'm not buying the potential argument of too-high exhaust temps. Their Sterling is supposed withstand temps way more than a few hundred degrees.
Check out how dull that Sterling got .....................
Are they registered with the BBB. Could be a route for you to travel. I don't have account privilege to view the pics but from the description I can imagine. Good Luck.
I'm pretty surprised that Jet Hot has gone downhill. In 2002 I sent a set of V&H longshots, heat shields and all down to Jet Hot for their flat black treatment. $200 later they came back. That price included shipping, removing the chrome, the flat black treatment and packaging. Plus the whole deal from start to finish was 2 weeks. Sad when a good company starts the bait and switch and the lousy customer service.
Figured I better share this just in case others might considering plunking down a fat sum of green.
So I buy me a V&H exhaust system from Dr. VTwin, that's the good part. Thanks again Shawn! I decide I want to visually modify the exhaust, then have it coated when I'm done. V&H finally releases the mufflers and I'm ready to send the item to Jet Hot. Earlier I'd been looking for a gloss black ceramic, not the flat or satin. I find a link showing gloss done by Jet Hot. I inquire and the guy says all he needs are the measurements to get a quote. Cool! So I thought. They have two offices, one in NC and one in AZ. NC guy says 6-8 day turn-around from the AZ location. About a week or so after the approximate due date AZ calls me saying the NC guy got the measurement wrong and they need an extra $50-60 or so for the job. I respectfully expressed my concern about that tactic and the AZ women (actually a nice BTW) makes some 'correction' and it's a mere $6. Ahh, a price of a burger, so what. Should ship out soon. I follow up a few times to learn two of the heat shields didn't pass quality control. I'm cool with that, at least they're checking right? A couple more delays from heat shields having to be redone again. It is at this point when I say "I understand, it's OK because since you folks are the only ones doing gloss black, it's worth the wait". To which she says "oh, we don't do gloss black anymore, it's more like a high luster black, it's definitely not flat though". Uh, WHAT? I decide not to jump to conclusions and wait until the parts arrive. After all, moments later during our conversation she mentions her boss decided to cover the difference of overnighting my exhaust system back to me for how patient I've been with all the delays.
So they arrive. Not even CLOSE to gloss black. Granted, they're not 'flat' black. In my opinion they're more like what Harley has. You know, that kind of sheen that the handlebar controls have. It might be a tiny bit shinier, but barely. I'll have to post pics in a few days as it's crappy weather and too dark in the garage to get a fair look at them. Bare with me on that one.
I sent them a letter expressing my dissatisfaction, no reply yet. Had the first person informed me they don't do gloss anymore, I would have passed.
There's a lot a fair minded people here and I'm interested in the Forum's opinion. I'd like to see how some of you would react. I feel it's BS. Hell, even the shiny "Sterling" on the actual headers has turned a dull gray already and that's after about 90 miles of riding. Back in the day Jet Hot was THE **** and was a standard others would be judged by. Today? Um, I don't know about that.
butcher I work for JET-HOT in OKC, sorry to hear about your pipes I can tell you that we do not offer a gloss black as it is hard to get done right.
we do offer a semi-gloss black and if you want us to rework the pipes here in OKC Iwhould be more than happy to help you out. Just so you know up front I do not want to put a time frame on doing it because as a rider I would rather it be right than fast. if no one has contacted you so far you are welcome to contact me and we can go from there. as far as the discoloring at the head we can not control the EGTs of your bike.
