2010s Any Issues
No, you got it right! I am a little put out about it. But, I have not had good luck on this trip picking dealers to work on my bike. I've now learned to find the dealers that do not have the fancy buildings! First dealer charged 70 dollars over retail for punctured tire experience, second dealer charged me 630 dollars for a 10 k service (we been out for awhile) and then this dealer.
We have toured every year for the last 11 years and this is the first year I have experienced these kinds of charges.

Went from a 2005 Stage 1 FLHR to a 2010 FLHR.
Currently at about 1500 miles and these are my thoughts:
Bike handles much better than the 2005 with much less ‘wallow’ or feeling of uncertainty. More pleasurable through the twisties.
Slightly harsher ride on the rear shocks (currently experimenting with pressures).
Brakes – vast improvement in stopping power over the 2005 but can feel like a switch (on or off).
Love the 6th gear. Whine present in 5th. Also whine in 1st if changing down on the run.
Lash (metallic slap) in 6th when loading and unloading the transmission (throttle on/off).
Grunt is sufficient. Throttle response could be snappier. Starting to loosen up a wee bit now.
Engine no longer frantically jumps around in the frame like the 05 did although I will see what it’s like after another 10K.
Sounded like a pussycat when I picked it up (quieter than my wife’s stock sportster) sorted that with a set of Jackpot slip ons from fuelmoto. Now happy with the exhaust note.
Heat build up from the Catalytic converter is substantial but bearable. Not convinced if the CAT hinders performance to any noticeable degree.
The rear light bar became loose and nearly fell off.
Ergonomics – for me (5’ 11”) it is worse than the 05. Seat puts you further back and I was bending or over reaching for the bars. Also, substantial room to move back and forth on the seat particularly under heavy braking. Fitted a set of heritage type bars that have helped a great deal but I may also look at a seat to more positively locate my butt.
Chrome work – it would appear that the MoCo has gone through a cost out exercise with this. Unfortunately there is normally a trade off when this occurs. I have noticed that the general quality has suffered. I have several pieces of chrome with what feels like ‘burrs’ standing up (you can feel or here them ‘******’ when rubbing with a soft cloth). I figure these will be ideal catalysts for pitting corrosion. The chrome is also softer and scratches much easier in comparison. The underside of the floor boards showed surface rust after only a month (I do live near the ocean).
The headlight fitment and finish into the nacelle looks wrong!
All in all whilst considering all the improvements ( Handling, Cruise control, ABS) and the pure joy I get from riding it I am suitably impressed and quite happy.

10,000 miles and the transmission is really howling. I'm currently on the road trying to finish up an 8,000 mile road trip from Washington State to Flordiay Keys and back. I stopped at a fancy Dealer on the road to have it checked. I said I thought the transmission bearings are going. He charged me 85 dollars and told me that, yes they are going. But, he has no parts and wouldn't be able to fix it until next week. So, he said to drive it home. Well, ok. I hope I make it....
Funny thing was that he said that he had just rebuilt a 2010 ultra tranny the day before and that his buddy dealer up the road had done one the week before. Something about a nylon bushing that melts out or fails and that messes up other things. I don't know. Anxious to get her to safe port and get it checked out.

I was riding my 04 Low Rider this past weekend with a friend who was on his brand new Road King. He was nearly killed in front of me when for apparently no reason on a nearly straight and empty highway, the wheel locked up for no apparent reason (as of yet), and wiped him out at 60 MPH. I was the only witness and he hasn't been able to talk because of the intubation. We are going to have the bike examined for mechanical failure, and I'd like to know if the tranny is a good place to start looking.
Thanks

Trek.... was there any talk of this problem causing a tranny to lock up the rear wheel upon failure?

I really don't know if the tranny could lock up. I will be really interested in finding out if this happened. If so, I will drop that tranny out and put a Baker in it.
