So after a day long ride with my full helmet I have noticed that i feel like I have left a hard rock concert. Huh what did YOU say ?i run an 09 street glide with monster oval and dont want to lose a singel decible of safety.
nor do i want to lose my ability to communicate with my friends or co riders
Obviuosly my summer half helmets are A ok as i think the wind actually cancells out the most defeaning sound and vibration.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WERE MY BLUTOOTH IS STILL VIABLE

I had to read you post a couple of times and i'm still scratching my head. Might just be too early for me. For me the full helmet is quiet and the half is crazy loud. The wind noise does cancel out almost everything so i wear foam ear plugs which helps me hear my radio. You will get more hearing damage from the wind with a half helmet in most cases. That wind noise is bad for the ears yet i still go around town without the plugs sometimes. When i use my full helmet i clip my mp3 player to my jacket and use some ear plugs to listen to my music. They cancel out most noise. I don't communicate with anyone so i'm not much help there.
Under my full face helmet, I use foam earplugs while riding. They block the ambient noise and reduce the exhaust decibles, but I can still hear the radio fine. I can tell a significant difference after taking off my helmet and talking with people when I use the earplugs and when I don't. I have been thinking about using earphones, but I know they are illegal in many states.

More like drowns out. How much ringing do you have at the end of the days ride? Like when it's really quiet and your trying to sleep? Wind noise is bad. Really bad. Try some cheap foam plugs. We can get the high $$ custom fitted style at work, they work almost as well as the cheap foam. I bring 'em home by the handful. E.A.R. brand are good. You will be surprised at how much you can hear through foam plugs.
There are some custom fit kits out there too. Some are cheap, others pricey. You can even put speakers in them. Google Do it yourself earplug kit
I would recommend using ear plugs...get yourself some of the foam ones or a good pair at the drug store. Only time I won't put in ear plugs is to run to the store or something....never ever ride without them during long rides. You won't have the "concert" feeling anymore and no more headaches afer riding long hours. Almost everyone I ride with uses ear plugs
I also have the Monster Ovals and find that the low frequency sound seems louder with full faced or earplugs than it does when ears aren't covered. It still has to be better for your long term hearing to protect your ears somewhat. I find that using either the full helmet or headset and listening to music at reasonable volume cancels out some of the muffler sound and leaves me less noise fatigued.
You guys are talking about the exhaust drone. Sport cars folks who install, let’s say more aggressive sounding exhaust, have the same complaint. Its a by-product of letting the exhuast gases out faster.
The problem is that the drone is a low frequency tone that sometimes is almost inaudible because it is so low. It can be very fatiguing and hard to ignore because your body feels it as much as your ears hear it. The reason the drone appears so loud in a full face helmet is because the frequency is bounced around like a church bell. Ear plugs may help some, but the solution is insulation between your body and the frequency, which is almost impossible on a motorcycle. Strangely, a loose fitting helmet probably helps, but that defeats the intent of the helmet.
Changing the exhaust is the better solution if it is that much of a problem. I really like the sound of my V&H Ovals on my 02 RKC, but I plan to find a quieter exhaust for my stage 1 on my SG because the Ovals wore me out after a few hours of riding. The stock pipes don’t do that. I think Fuel Moto might have something that will give more performance without to much drone.
